    Fixing a slightly bent bayonet.

Whatever swiss soldier had this K31 bayonet before used it for a prybar.

About halfway down the blade it's a little bent, making the metal get torn up going in and out of the scabbard.

is there a safe way to straighten it?

    Thanks! I'll check around.

It's just a random K31 bayonet, nothing special. But the bend bothers my OCD.

I repaired a jacked up Japanese bayo a friend gave me my bending it with my hands.

Use a broomstick on a workbench and press down to bend it. Mine turned out pretty well considering how buggered it was.

My K31 bayo had a nice big bend in it too.

I just wedged it under the bookcase and bent it back straight. It worked out okay.

How much force did you use? I've bent this past straight the opposite way a few times, but it isn't staying.

I wedged it under the bookcase then bent it straight and set a wood block under the blade and went to town on it. Slowly increasing the pressure and bending it farther and farther.

I bent it past straight in the opposite direction and set the block under it and let it sit like that for a couple hours.

              I hope that makes sense.

Thanks. I sat it under a block of wood under 315lbs of iron and propped it. It's straighter--to the point it goes in the scabbard easy

                  Thx

another good example of what it was like to "fix bayonets"

Yup. Mine too. I think thats about as good as you'll get it by hand.

Mine is matched to the rifle it came with. I didnt want to mess with it to much. It was sticking in the scabbard though. I didnt want to get caught short if I have to do a bayonet charge.

that type of war started 100 years ago last month.

can you believe it took military institutions several years and several MILLION casualties to figure out charging machine guns with massed infantry formations was a bad idea?

One of my favorite movies, and one if the rare cases of the movie is better than the book. Shows what a good director can do. Poor Tina Lombardi.
