Mexican Mausers - Pre and post revolution examples -

My pride and joy from the Mexican collection -

In 1902, what many consider the finest Mauser action ever designed was adopted when DWM completed the deliveries on the contract for the Modelo 1895. This used a small receiver ring short action of the pattern 98 type. The Modelo 1902 was made by DWM and about 38,000 were delivered by 1904 when the contract was completed. Still short of rifles, a new contract was let for additional Mausers and assigned to Steyr by the Mauser Rifle Cartel in 1906 and 40,000 more M1902 were delivered. All M1902 were in 7x57mm.

That is a beautiful specimen. How long have you had it?

I don't know anything about these rifles, is there a reason it doesn't have a Crossbolt through the stock?

A small ring 98, made to look like the 1895. You don't see many because they are highly prized by custom builders for lightweight sporter rifles. When you do see one still in military dress, it looks like it's been drug behind Pancho Villa's horse.
That's easily an $800+ rifle, very nice Saigon!

Even though illegal alot of these older FMM rifles remain hidden away under floorboards throughout Mexico...

I've been the guardian of this example for about +10 years now - I got it off a seller that I was buying another Mexican Mauser from -

Other than a few dings on the stock - She is just like how she left DWM with passport per Trap55 -

I've a bayonet but the condition is quite used -

With only 38K made - I am extremely happy with acquiring an example this nice!

Trap - An ealier one 1902 sold for 1.5K back in 2010 -

Dan - In all my years of traveling south of the border - I've yet to encounter one - Lots of old shotguns and .22s though - A few AKs and lots of ARs -

As for the lack of cross bolt - I am unsure -
