M-1 was more reliable than the SVT, also more accurate

M1 Garand, the only foreign semi auto rifle I really like is the SKS.

Since I just ordered a CMP Special Garand and have been scrounging for HXP for months, a complicated and weird looking temperamental Russian rifle that is reportedly prone to malfunctioning and breakage has literally zero appeal to me whatsoever.

Question for all of you that keep calling the rifle complicated with many little parts......Have you ever taken a SVT apart? It's a super easy, simple design. I can have the rifle stripped in less than 2 minutes.

"complicated" is relative of course, but, have you stripped an sks by comparison? the relative to the SKS or the AK47, for example, the svt40 is "complicated".

I thought we were comparing the SVT with the Garand?

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

                    Shot both.

                    M1 has better sights.

Can't say which is better since I don't own either.

I've owned both. The Garand does have superior sights, and feels much sturdier. I've NEVER experienced a jam with a Garand, have you?

Ivan didn't think it was that easy to maintain but then the Germans didn't have any problems with it, not a problem in Finnish hands either. Not accurate enough to be a Sniper Rifle, uncontrollable in full auto.

M-1 a better overall rifle, more accurate and more reliable.

                          I don't have an SVT-40 but love the M1.

Has anyone tried removing the M1 gas plug to turn it into a single shot rifle? I have heard it done but never tried it or seen anyone else do it.

We have both. The SVT40 is a neat gun, but the Garand is a classic. Its like a 1911 or a Luger. Most people recognize it and want to shoot it if they haven't shot one before.
                              Because milsurp.

I have both. Love my SVT but mainly because I searched for one for a very long time. My Garand I bought on a whim from CMP and although Im glad I did, I like the SVT more.

Now if we are going to discuss fun, accurate rifles to shoot then hands down Im giving the win to my Ljungman!
