First, and simplest, remove and stretch slightly the clip latch spring. If that doesn't fix the problem, replace your bullet guide.
If stretching the clip latch spring works, get a new clip latch spring. The old one was getting weak.
You might want to replace the clip latch spring on general principles. No telling how old it is.
Get a spring kit from Orion 7 and replace all the springs with those in the kit. They have one of the best op rod springs.

i am not a fan of the clip design of the M1. you just never know for sure if the 8 rounds are going to feed into the rifle or get stuck half way down because one round moved slightly forward while installing the bullets. at the range i always see M1 shooters fighting with the clips. The M-14 was a improvement for sure. aside from the history i would take a nice early M1a with usgi parts in it over the garand. i have owned both. and the take down to clean the bolt on a M1 is just plain complicated.i much prefer shooting a 1903a3 springfield or a model 1917.

My M1 is really boring. I just feed it clips, bang 8 times, ping and pick up my brass and clip. I've shot my own reloads, PMC, Federal, Winchester and Remington hunting ammo and reloads of unknown history and age. The only problem I've had is 4 FTF with Korean ammo. That's out of a full can of 270. I , don't mess with left/right. Most of the time I load clips by feel watching TV.
There is some good advice here though if my M1 ever starts acting up.

OP, if Orion 7 is out of the op rod springs, Garand Gear sells them too. I'm not sure, but I think it's the same spring, either way, it's a top quality item.

My M1 Garand kept ejecting fully loaded enblocs out of the weapon while attempting to load it, until I realized that I was just being a Nancy-boy and not shoving them down in there all the way.

Anybody having a hard time monkeying with getting the M1 bolt back together should try using a spent casing to depress the ejector. They fit perfectly, for some odd reason.

Loading the clip for the garand is easy if you pay attention.

If there's a standout you need to fix it. Easy to see and fix.

Agreed that if that's too complicated you should shoot a bolt gun.

It is not to complicated and my M1 is a fine working example. Still i see a lot of M1 owners at the range fiddling around with issues. it is a great rifle but not perfect.

Maybe you see a lot of M1 owners fiddling around is because the issue is the owner

You may notice a series of punctures on a stock from GI's tspping them to seat them. My step dad said they used to also tap them against there helmet before loading One of mine ejected a live round with the spent a few times. The bullet guide was out of spec and a replacement seemed to solve that glitch. But I also replaced all of the springs and follower rod which was bent and also causing a short stroke.
the first round that's chambered should from right side of the clip. open up a can of GI ammunition, every clip is loaded in the same exact way.

Yes that is standard form of loading as most people are right handed and with top round on right it is easier to insert enbloc with right hand. It works either way. Try it

I vo shooting with a really experienced shooter . Retired jarhead and offered my M1 for him to shoot. He just didnt want take the chance ot the thumb thing. But not being afraid to load it GI style with my palm resting on the charging handle and pushing and not panicking until I heard that click and feeling the charging handle wanting to go forward and not letting it until my thumb was out of the way then ....then I pushed the bolt forward.
I have all kinds of clips and non caused ftf. Any kind of ammo, I even did some reloading and they didnt ftf. Everything works, every time.

At the range those guys that use the 2 handed method of loading the Garand are the ones you see. Fiddling around trying to load. Right hand holding the bolt back and left hand trying to push the clip down right? You'll alway see crazy sheet like that but dont fear.......Please ne hand is better than 2

I'm right handed and think it's just as easy either way they're loaded.
