    Old rusty Japanese barrelled action

This was an estate sale find. Looks like late Japanese with the mum X'd out.

I'm no expert but I think it's an Arisaka action receiver, and you'll be able to find out the model because it only has the one hole on the top of the receiver and some have two.

and at least it doesn't have any rust.

    :-)

(I think I have a original bolt that would fit a Arisaka, if anyone's interested.)

Been using the metal detector again? It looks like it was buried in their backyard. LOL

What are you going to do with it?

I'd restore it. I'd start by changing out the action and replacing the barrel.

coat it with naval jelly and discover if there's any metal underneath.

            I'm pretty sure it's a Type 99 Arisaka

            The T38 and T44's have 2 holes

I think it is a type 38 -- no integral receiver tang.

I just looked at a bunch of pics and the Type38s have 2 horizontal holes while the Type 99 has one hole. Then again, I'm not so smart.

well at least you know now that it's definitely a arisaka & if you change the title of this thread maybe some arisaka experts will come in here and tell you what you need or what model it is.

but before you do definitely put up another photo of a perfect bore with nice bright rifling..

                      ;-)

that will teach people from pre judging a rifle with a little bit a patina on it.

You posted rust and Ajax smelled it.
I'll bet the chrome bore will clean right up.
