      My dad who was a corporal in the WW2 USAAF was issued an M1 carbean and that's what he called it and so do I.

        Car-bean and Gur-Rand and they may both be wrong.

                  Pretty sure the english language rules dictate the ine to be said car bine. Wine pine dine fine line vine nine ect. When you introduce culture and social aspects words get confused and integrated into acceptable versions other than the original. I say carbean but believe car bine is technically correct.
