M1 Carbine... How do you say "carbine"?

On the 4th I was having a conversation about guns with a fellow at a party, and the subject of Garands and Carbines came up. I kept saying "car bean" and he kept saying "car bine" (rhymes with sign). It got to be a little awkward...

Now, I know that a short rifle is a "car bine" but the M1, for some reason, has always been a "car bean" to me.

What do you guys say?

If you are fortunate enough to own an M1 Carbine, one of the funnest guns ever to shoot and plink with, you have the right to call it whatever you like. Mine are called "Soul Reaver" and "Ghost of War". The Garand is just called Lulu.

I text it in Spanish as carabina when texting people that understand it as to practice my Spanish I'll text in it partially what words I can. Actually I think Carbine is an Italian surname.
