Guest, I sent you a PM. DRComment

Did you clean and scrub that? Looks as if the rust has been removed and the pitting is what was left. Since the rust has been negated, at least it won't get worse.
If that tab that holds the hammer breaks, then you could potentially have a big time failure and freeze things up. If the hammer spring breaks loose that could be a pain too.Originally posted by doggieSomeone must put an end to this endless bickering by posting the unadulterated indisputable facts and truth."The California matrix of gun control laws is among the harshest in the nation and are filled with criminal law traps for people of common intelligence who desire to obey the law." - U.S. District Judge Roger T. The third, fourth, and fifth pictures make me think it should be replaced. I don't like how that connection is so rough.
But if that's the fail point it probably won't hurt you or the rifle if you decide to run it into the ground.MOSINS MOSins Mosins . snisoM sniSOM SNISOMComment

+1 on Kivaari.
FWIW... you could probably drive over that trigger group a few times and it will still function fine. Its a Russian rifle. It is supposed be it indestructible.Last edited by C&Rtrader; 06-30-2014, 7:08 PM.WTB:Old Video Games! Nintendo, Sega, Atari, etc consoles and games.

Thanks for the advise everyone. I did the naval jelly treatment and found rust underneath the pits. The pitting was much more extensive than it looked to be. When I can, I'll post pics for a comparison. I was popping out nuggets of rust with a pick. I've decided to get a new trigger group. The old one can be used as a back up or for parts. I think the localized pitting was due to the stock getting wet and rubbing those areas. The stock will have to be replaced due to major cracks in the foregrip area.Comment

This triggerhousing is Soviet and matches your rifle, right? Remove active rust, treat it as appropriate to prevent any further deterioration, and use it.
This is not a critical part like a barrel, bolt, or receiver, where this pitting might be dangerous. Hell, to Somali boat pirates, that looks like a new part. It looks like most of the pitting isn't visible with the gun assembled anyhow. Original Russian SKS parts are getting pretty hard to find and kind of expensive these days.
If the Red Army had worried about a little thing like this, they'd still be speaking German in Stalingrad.Comment
