    Rusty SKS Trigger Group

I bought an sks a few months ago for $400. It looked fine until I took it apart. The trigger group had a little rust, and a whole lot of pitting. I haven't fired it, but it seems to functions fine. The corrosion that concerns me is the bit around and including the pins. I'm trying to decide if I should just go ahead and replace the trigger group or clean off the rest of the rust, refinish, and try to replace the pins.

Replace it ASAP, better now that later when it give you problems.

That's about as bad as I've seen. I personally wouldn't fire it. Assuming the rest of your Simonov is in good condition, you can find complete trigger groups relatively easily for $100 or less (sometimes much less). Any variant should fit fine and snap right in.

Personally, I would replace the trigger group. It's probably OK, but why risk a malfunction, or worse? I'm just curious why the rust and pitting is so bad and so isolated.

I own 40 SKS rifles myself, and I'd leave it alone.

It will probably still outlive us both.

That looks horrible. But it is a sks so should be fine.

                        Here is what you do.....

Do like Bobby says and get another trigger group. Then contact Kivaari (google "kivaari trigger job") and send him an email. Ask him if he will do a discounted trigger job on your new trigger group for a discount, in exchange you give him your rusted trigger group. This way he can salvage some serviceable parts and you get a cheap trigger job.
Three of my SKSs have Kivaari trigger jobs. He vastly improved the trigger function as well as improved the safeties.

Probably got wet and nobody ever dried it thoroughly. That's all I can think of if everything else is okay.

That will out live you if thr rust is stopped. Get some naval jelly...apply. .wait 5 minutes...brush off then paint it with bbq black.

No issue. If you like spending money , buy a trigger group.
