I got mine from Simpsons Ltd. They are a great firm to deal with. Krausewerks in San Mateo had a couple of them, my friend got one in January there $450. Some of the powder supplies actually have good rates on powder shipping.

          Terrific looking old BSA -
My first motorcycle was a BSA Bantam

Great find - don't you love it when originals are cheaper than replicas?

Nice find - looking forward to hearing how it shoots.

Excellent, I love seeing these old rifles doing what they made for. Looking forward to your range report.

It would be a shame not to fire it. Even if I don't hit anything with it, I will still be happy throwing lead down range.

A surprising number of relic muskets found in attics and basements are harboring 100 year old powder and ball loads, sometimes a couple. If you haven't already checked yours, you should.

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

Corrected - Unless you went back with another friend and he got a better deal.

Yours did not require the work that the $500 one needed (cleaning up what had been done to it over the century and a half of it's existence, waiting with baited breath to see if the stock and barrel were permanently damaged or just covered up with crap) - and that one is still being worked on, six months later, while yours is already beautiful.

                          Musket ??

very very nice, please school me on the term Musket. I thought rifling made a gun a rifle. And a musket is a muzzle loader with or without rifling. ?
Again it is a true beauty. happy for you.

This is what is known as a "rifled musket". It has rifling, but not to the same extent (depth and width of grooves, for example) as modern firearms.

                              Wikipedia tells us that
A rifled musket or rifle musket is a type of firearm made in the mid-19th century. Originally the term referred only to muskets that had been produced as a smoothbore weapon and later had their barrels rifled. The term was later extended to include rifles that directly replaced, and were of the same design overall, as a particular model of smoothbore musket.
It goes on to say that a firearm was sometimes produced as both a specialist "rifle", and a "rifled musket", with the main difference being that rifled muskets were longer, to help when firing in ranks, and when using them with bayonets.

Thus the 1853 Enfield was produced both as a "rfile" - the "two band Enfield" with a shorter barrel (and thus, only two barrel bands) - and the "three band Enfield" "Rifled Musket", whose longer barrel required a third barrel band.

Took it shooting today. the first 10 rounds stayed in a fairly consistent 8" circle. After that the fouling got bad and started throwing rounds everywhere.
