one day I will get in to collecting the older birds.

Very nice - can't for the range report!"The only thing necessary for the triumph [of evil] is for good men to do nothing." Edmund Burke speech of 23 April 1770, "Thoughts on the Cause of the Present Discontents," delivered to the House of Commons.Comment

That's not an SMLE, lol
Looks pretty nice. I've thought about getting into antiques just so I can FTF them, hahaMarch 29- April 5, 2019- The Million Mag March. Thank you, Judge Benitez and all the vendors

It's going to the range! It would be a shame for it not to fulfill it's purpose. Just need to order some Minie Balls for it from Track of the Wolf this week.Soli Deo Gloria.Comment

So cool. Does it use #12 or #11 caps? Something bigger even?Truckers make the world go 'round!

Musket caps, even bigger than the #11sSoli Deo Gloria.Comment

Cool! Are they also hard to find like the revolver-sized caps? For months I could only find a few tins of Winchester #11 Magnum's for my Pietta 1851 Navy until I went to the gun show in Costa Mesa last weekend and found a vendor selling CCI #10 caps by the 1,000 for $80. Of course, I had to grab a box; was even considering grabbing another but figured 1,000 should do for quite a while.
edit - How much do these originals normally go for? I've read that replicas can be even more expensive than originals? Who makes a good replica for plinking? It doesn't necessarily need to be a Pattern 1853 but I'd definitely prefer it. I'd really like to pick up a black powder rifle to accompany the revolver.Last edited by anti; 06-08-2014, 10:42 PM.Truckers make the world go 'round!

I paid $900 for this one. After seeing that the pedersoli was more expensive than the original, I figured I might as well get one with some history.Soli Deo Gloria.Comment

I'd probably go with the original in that case, too, but do you think a lot of the originals floating around are still safe to shoot? How about with Pyrodex RS? I'm guessing it's possible but it's better to stick with Goex FFG?Truckers make the world go 'round!

That cartouche is amazing! Nice pickup...You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.
Come on...what harm??

I believe I can use pyrodex in it, but i have so much Goex from my flinter and Martini I might as well use the real stuff.
What surprises me is it still has a sharp Cooper and Goodman stock maker cartouche on the toe.Soli Deo Gloria.Comment

Ha, I wish I could say the same thing. I cannot find the real black powder anywhere! All I find is Pyrodex everywhere I look. It's not a big deal, though, it's worked great so far and it's been pretty easy to clean with hot water but I'd really like to try a can of Goex or Swiss.
Is GunBroker the best place to look for one?
edit - You obviously scored a good one for $900 because I'm looking at GunBroker right now and there's quite a few of them in far worse shape than yours for a lot more. Good find!Last edited by anti; 06-09-2014, 4:41 PM.Truckers make the world go 'round!
