C&R license - what are the benefits now in CA?

Hi all,

Just looked at my C&R and saw it expired on 5/1/14 (d'oh!) and i never got the renewal from the ATF. Regardless i know its on me, but i'm frustrated about needing to go through the agonizing registration process all over again.

I got my C&R years ago to get some garands from the CMP, though i understand that they no longer ship garands to C&R holders as they now need to ship directly to a FFL to do the transfer thanks to our new laws.

I'm trying to decide if there is any reason to renew. Can anyone enlighten me on what the benefits currently are for a C&R? I mean, weren't the laws changed requiring registration of all long guns now, rendering the single benefit of a C&R, the out of state delivery of a C&R eligible rifle to your door via fedex, now restricted? Or am i understanding this wrong?

Can somebody please outline for me what advantages a C&R license holder today has over somebody without the license? Is it worth it?

I think its only worth it if you plan on buying several to dozen + rifles. I believe you can go out of state and buy all you want- but still have to register once back in Peoples Repulik Kalifornia

other then that its all crap now in my opinion, I only wanted a few c&rs . I still want an svt 40, but its only one rifle. Im not playing cadoj bs games anymore. I am going to do my best not to send them one more dollar.

I have a svt40. Had it for 2 years and i highly recommend it. Beautiful rifle and highly rare.

Yeah i figured as much for C&R these days. USED to be worth while, but now with the registration of long guns that really took 99% of the appeal away.

I may renew it just to say i have one, but meh.

Now that it's expired, you can delete your bound book. If you want an 03 in the future, just reapply, and start a new bound book if/when you pick up any new pieces.

I recommend you not renew it. I am trying to reduce my competition for the good deals out there. Same advice to JF, Trickster, and Oni. They probably won't listen though.

Jumped on C&R wagon too late to get the full benefits. But just finished filling mine out and will be sending it in directly.I will take any benefit I can get.

So then can you still do cash and carry deals FTF locally with other C&R / FFL03 with COE's?

yes you can- but will need to send $ and registration to the overlords....

for me that is about a .01% of my purchases so I am putting a lighter to my 03..burning like a bra in the 60's
