I picked up a very nice garland that I believe is a Danish return. The bolt is marked p.b and the barrel is from 2-60 it has crowns and var markings. Is there any other marks that would say for sure if it is a Danish rifle?

Its actually a Danish return. The rear sight cover may have a anchor. Look for a serial number stamped on the stock. The VAR barrels are noted for their accuracy.
If you have the CMP certificate, I believe at one time they called out "Danish M1 Garand" Yup, check my certificate for my 2004 Winchester Danish return.Last edited by stevie; 03-18-2014, 6:15 PM. -
Danish M1 rifles frequently have a rebuild data sheet in the barrel channel of the stock which is at least an indication that the stock is from a Danish rifle. Also the Danish stocks are frequently beech, a wood not used by the U.S. for M1 rifles.Comment

Sounds very nice. Had I myself for a while. VAR is indeed a Danish Barrel and they shoot really well too. The PB marked bolt is Italian (Pietro Beretta). Not sure how an Italian bolt would have gotten on a Danish rifle. It is likely the Danes sourced parts from Beretta. Check the stock as well, many were restocked usually with Beech wood stocks. Beretta made many parts including receivers. You may also run across BRM markings, these parts were made by the other Italian mfg. Breda. I believe the only parts the Danes actually made were barrels and stocks. I'm sure someone else will have more to add.

The Danes bought Breda and Beretta M1 rifles to supplement the U.S. rifles supplied to them. Some of them were brought in to the U.S. but most of the Italian made/Danish issue M1s were broken up for parts kits and the receivers destroyed.Sounds very nice. Had I myself for a while.
