That's a great looking trio, with an interesting variety mounts are they 1917's or 1919's? - the twin A6's are cool, too.

B. Ricigliano - lol, like I wrote - in an attempt to excuse it - it was an early work, lol.
The 1919 jacket doesn't heat up much at all, so hip shooting shouldn't be tough, but when he threw it away after the last take, he grabbed the booster cone (which does heat up!), and had to visit the ER, sloughed a bunch of skin off his palm. Also he's a Southpaw, so the charging handle bruised his hip pretty badly - it was a mess, and we almost burned down Spearmint Rhino, which made them unhappy - just another part of my misspent youth.

I saw a movie clip awhile ago of Bob Hope and a couple other guys in his visiting entertainer group in the Pacific theater during WW2 shooting 1919A4s from the hip with a big group of servicemen standing around them in a semi-circle. They had rags around the barrel jacket to protect the supporting hand. Hope had a big grin on his face while shooting his gun!

A shooting enthusiast from the UK visited with me a couple years ago and tried out my 1919A4. You can tell from his expression that he enjoyed the experience!

An estate buy, deceased owner -

Looking through the usual worthless detritus of a human life - objects once held sacred and dear - looked after for years only to be tossed, items holding sentimental value to only the recently passed, family photos, broken childrens' toys, I noticed a familiar if dusty looking barrel in the shadows.

"Yes, one of dad's old things..."

A little excitement, as this was revealed...



Then a little concern as I read the side plate...



I opened the top cover and recognized the Israeli 7.62mm internals, replacing what the side-plate said should have been there - I was still a little worried.

I examined further - I did cycle the action and determined it was semi-auto, but what a strange engraving to have - great fun if you get pulled over.

I looked underneath the action, and finally pretty well hidden...

A sigh of relief and a trip to my favorite gun store - and it's now mine.

I thought I would post this here, as it's a copy of a 1919A4 which in it's original state is a curio and relic - this is not a C&R of course, as it's a modern rifle by way of the modern receiver parts - not to mention the new internals.

But, should anyone run across one and be concerned, I guess this was something Allied did to make the guns more appealing to re-enactors and collectors.

Unfortunately we live in an era of misinformation and fear, so I thought I'd just let people know that there are perfectly legal semi-autos out there, marked up as machine guns with the legal semi auto engraving quite well hidden.

The tripods are the m2 standard 1919 tripod (one with a extra height and can holder adapter) they are the most stable and easily transported pod. The middle pod is a Maxim sokalov carraige which fits the 1919 perfectly without any adapter. The guns are all the 1917A1 a WW2 version which has the same rear box as a 1919 with the reinforced stirrup riveted bottom plate as opposed to the slick side original 1917.

Nice DRH - I have a Sokolov, A Lafette and the German AA - will now adding an M2 - although I'm going the reproduction route.
There seems to be no real way of storing these mounts very efficiently - my wife is convinced the Sokolov is some sort of wheelbarrow for gardening, I am content perpetuating this slight misunderstanding.



SMLE & Bobby - I got the idea for the hip-shooting scene from a pic of Sgt. John Basilone on a cover of Colliers - I tried to find a 1917 water cooled, but at the time, Gibbons who I was renting the FA from only had a transferable 1919A4 (even rentals have to be transferred) - their 1917 was a dealer sample which meant I couldn't rent it on my DWP - it would have to come out with an armorer working under their 07 - which was a considerable extra cost. So, I compromised, one of many, as usual


Got the cover framed and it now hangs in my office.

Cal BAR - I like the set up - black and white is the way to go with old gun videos for sure

When I got my first 1919 kit it came with the bolt assembled. Being a guy I went to fiddle with it to understand how it all went together and worked. I put the screw driver on the drive spring rod and turned it. Thank God it was pointed 90 degrees from me and just launched the screwdriver and rod into the garage door. I got off with a chunk taken out of the door and not me.

Lost my eye in 89. Right through a pair of safety glasses and regular ones. Guess that's why my friends call me cyclops, well they call me a bunch of other stuff too. I started building semis in 86. Back in the good old days when you could beat up John Bush at Ed Faust's 20th street warehouse in Sac. If you could buy enough junk he would always bust down the prices.

Now that you mention it, I seem to remember a scene in "Air Force" with the crew of Mary Anne hip firing 1919s also.

I recognize that "Place to Shoot". I hooked my M2 pod front leg on the concrete also. To bad they freak out on belts over 10 rounds. The RO even told me of all high caps are being banned in July of this year. The misinformation from some gun owners is astounding.

First time I shot it with the front tripod foot in the dirt I couldn't understand why I had to keep raising the elevation as I was shooting then realized that the pad was digging itself deeper and deeper from the recoil!

The guys at APTS are ok and pretty cool. Bob on the RR and Richard on the pistol range are very friendly, actually so are all of the range guys.

I had the opportunity to shoot a twin barrel 1919 at the Calguns zombie shoot a couple of years ago. Lonewolf was the one who brought it out, what a fun gun to shoot. I'll have to see if I can find the picture of it.
