Yes it will, but you don't shoot the squirrel.
"Barkin a squirrel", you shoot the bark under him. The concussion kills em, or knocks em out long enough for a thump in the head. No holes, no missing meat. Dang, don't you city boys know nuthin?
You don't eat ground squirrels, unless you're reaaally hungry. They do make great reactive targets when hit with a Mosin, kinda like tannerite without the boom.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

But seriously Hunting is against the law on Sunday in Maine.....
Some states still have blue laws. A few have no Sunday hunting laws. No alcohol sales on Sunday. Stuff like that. Wikipedia has an page on them.

Someone pour some solvent down that T53! Quickly before the corrosive salts begin their destructive work on the barrel!

That fisherman, who I hope is counting his lucky stars, can now tell all his relatives that he was shot by a Commie rifle back in the day of 2014.

Well, at least the press folks didn't call it an AK-47 "Chinese Assault Weapon" this time.

Yeah, there are major amounts of fail on this. The victim is definitely lucky to be alive, though very unlucky to have gotten hit by that .30-cal, no matter how "slow" it might've been going at that point. Wow. If this fool wanted to shoot a squirrel, how come he didn't bring his .22LR? That's what those are for!

                  EPIC. FAIL.

And BTW, yes, it's true about Mosins being able to reach out there accurately if the shooter is good enough.

Since it's my home-town newspaper, I'll say that I've always been pretty pleased by the Portland Press-Herald. Yeah, it's still slanted, but they do tend to get straight-up facts right more often than not.

Really? I vaporized a squirrel with my '44 91/30PU at ~400 yards. Front half went AWOL, back half went flying.

New England still - in some ways - clings to the last tattered shreds of its repressive Puritan heritage. No hunting on Sundays, illegal to sell a car on Sundays. Hell, when I was a kid in Maine, no business with more than X number of employees (I think it was based on #/employees) was allowed to be open on Sunday.
