Some of the energy/pressure generated went to expanding the brass case of the 7.62x51. The felt pressure in the chamber area was actually lower than a standard 54R round.

After their creation, the Mosin's were sent into the desolate and deadly forests of Siberia, where they had to fight off ferocious Siberian Tigers, illegal Chinese immigrants trying to steal them for scrap metal, and the always dangerous 'rust'.

Eventually, deep in the forests of Siberia, they would have to fight their natural, blood thirsty enemy: the Volvo 240.

If you listen carefully, you can hear them singing the national Societ anthem, folk songs, and laughing with bellowing, hearty laughter after each fire, just imagining the evil fascist scum they shot in defense of their motherland.

Do not tell them that the glorious Soviet Union fell, for then they shall become disspearated, and will refuse to work unless you bribe them with Vodka and little pocket watches.

So you think that very much underpowered .308 Winchester, of the capitalist pigs, will hurt the mighty and strong Mosin Nagant?

That was hilarious! Thanks for the laugh!

Mosins were made by slave labor and deigned to be carried by uneducated peasant conscripts. They were designed to be used in the worst conditions possible by the least concerned imaginable. There is nothing a spoiled capitalist could do to harm one.

There is one oddity about the mosin. It has an automatic firing pin block when the gun is pointed at soviet officers. It's very hard to disconnect.

Garands needed no such "safety" feature.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

lucky. I've heard people say the design of the mosin doesn't have protection for the shooter from the cartigride gas if something goes wrong.... that more modern rifles have.

Don't feel bad, I once went shooting with my nephew. I had my M44 and my k98. I walked away and left him on his own. I heard a shot that sounded a little funny. Went to where he was and saw him using the butt stock of the Mauser to beat open the M44 after he shot. I ran in horror, slow motion of course, yelling "NO!!!!". Turns out he had loaded 8mm Mauser in it, managed to chamber a round, he managed to load 5 rounds in it. He shot, worked the bolt, extracted the brass and was trying to chamber the next round. Lucky it caused no damage. I blame myself for leaving him on his own. He was "only" 28 at the time.

A friend fired a .40 in my 1911. Keyholed a target and the brass expanded a bit.
                              Impressive.
