Long story short I managed to chamber/fire 2 rounds of 7.62x51 WWB in my Mosin M44



Bulged one case, completely split the other... Lesson learned, don't be like me.

Gun seems functionally/visually fine, anything specific to check/look over before I shoot her again?

Did you single load those, or did they actually feed through the mag?

They fed, and the first one even extracted... I was shooting WWB brass 762x54r and mixed up 2 cases, dumb dumb dumb.

It would remove the bolt (inspect that 1st) and look into the chamber.

It is prob ok, if you still feel uneasy take it to a gunsmith.

i remember reading about someone doing this before.

Seeing your cases it looks like exactly what you would expect. The .308 is narrower so it will bulge noticiably, The lenght is shorter and rimless so theres a few mm of space, of course this makes a separation a likely occurrence. .308 is a higher pressure cartridge too

Im surprised you did not mention a noticeable blowback of gas.

all in all i doubt any damage happened except for the gas blowback making things dirty

Reminds me of the time I shot a 9mm round in my .40.

Same results.. Bulged casing. Gun was and is fine.
