Allan's Armory is top notch and a supporter of Gunboards. He is very willing to help out with information or knowledge to a c+r dummy like myself. Now I wish I had bought 3 or 4 of the Mosin 91/59's he had in stock a couple of years ago when I asked those questions ...

Yes I agree. Even in un-gun friendly 2014 California, buying a rifle from him was a snap. The rifle I got had very small areas of surface rust that came right off with some Hoppes and a brush. I should get it back together tonight.

I will be forever mystified by SKS rifles with stocks that look like they were set on fire and extinguished with an icepick but that also have 90% + bluing and virtually no wear on the internals.

I finished cleaning the SKS from Allan's and getting it back together. The stock is solid and intact. It had a couple pill shaped arsenal repairs which I have seen before on the early Chicoms. There was an almost undetectable crack along the bottom of the bayonet channel where the wood is super thin that does not appear to be structural. I gorilla glued and clamped it just for good measure although it seemed insignificant and is not visible when the rifle is assembled.

(THIS THREAD IS WORTHLESS WITHOUT PICS...I KNOW I KNOW)

There are very minor small splotches of surface pitting along the wood line which cleaned up well and weren't deep. A few spots of surface rust that came right off. Mint bore, nothing missing, function checks perfect. Better than average trigger.

I am delighted that the bayonet is not pinned on. I hate the way the stock looks and I want to find one more aesthetically pleasing because I ****ing hate trench art and gouged up stocks. There are 10 nice spike cut stocks available for every one blade cut and I have an extra spike bayonet assembly anyway. I will post some pics of the rifle tomorrow because I am already in the doghouse for spending the whole evening in the garage with this nasty commie beast.
