War reparations German 105mm M1916 howitzer. It has seen better days!

Hoping to participate in its restoration someday.

After being on display from the mid 40s to the 80s it fell into disrepair and looks like it had been set on fire. Bits of chard spokes were still stuck in the wheel hubs. It has been moved to covered storage now.

As a Marine artilleryman, I find that AWESOME! I just wish I could put a howitzer in my my front yard, that's what I call high class yard art!

I don't think Hoppes makes a bore brush for that.
Surprised they had wood spokes on something that heavy. Damned shame the wheels are so far gone. With what's left of the right wheel and the hubs, a good wheelwright could make a pair.
Got a breech block? I know where to a get a round for a test fire.

Cool find to restore. I've heard that the Amish make the best wooden spoked wheels you can get. I've seen the ones they made for colonial and civil war cannons and their work looks just like the originals did. When you get around to replace them, Google Amish wood spoked wheel.

It was typically horse drawn and two of the crew would ride in the seats in front of the splinter shield. Can you imagine what the ride was like with wood wheels with iron rims and no springs?

My research shows that there are only a couple of this model gun in the U.S. Its condition is a shame, I've seen pictures of it from the 40s and it looked like it was just issued. By the 70s it was getting pretty ragged.

their is a very nice small military Museum in rosemead CA . many German & US tanks,artillery peaces jeeps you name it. it is outdoors and has been their for over 30 years. it is kind of old school , nothing fancy but they do have some very nice equipment on display. It is cheap and you can see it all in about 60 minutes. it is just south of the 60 fwy and Rosemead blvd.
