    This just in.................

With only 9 hours to go on the "cash & carry" shot clock, I finally got my hands on a pre-64 Winchester Model 1894 in 30-30. From the serial number, it looks to be a post-war 1947 unit.

Lots of patina and a fair amount of surface rust/freckling, and the butt-stock is cracked........ but the action is tight, the bore is beautiful, and the price was right.

I've been wanting one of these for a while, and now I have one.

Nice pick up and just in time. My 94 spent most of its life on my wife's grandparents ranch, banging around in the pick up or tractor. It is marked .30 WCF (30-30) and the finish pretty much mirrors yours. You'll enjoy the heck out of it, fun to shoot. I've even taken some game with mine (ferral pig).

that's the way to do the " in before the last minute bell "
                  with some style and class.
most guys would be happy to just grab a Mosin.

Really nice. I like the well worn look. You are going to leave it as is I would hope?

After I take it down, clean/inspect it, and stabilize the cracked wood.

Thanks. Never was much of a Mosin kind o' guy. I own 3 - a couple of never-fired 91/30's and a Finn that I fired once or twice and then relegated to the safe. Had an SKS once too, but got over it pretty quick and sold it off a long time ago.

I plan to gently remove the surface rust and then clean/lube it properly. I will try to repair the cracks, and then clean but not refinish the wood.

I'm totally digging the patina and the "been there, done that" look of this gun.

                        Nice rifle and good timing.
People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

Nice, just in under the wire. It looks like it should clean up nicely.
