I'd give you $300 and source a stock myself.

Don't listen to these haters. You can get just as much for it as if it has a wood stock. I'd list it for whatever these experts claim is the going rate ($500 I believe). Stock is kinda important but overall metal/barrel condition is most important. I'd rather have a SKS with a plastic stock that has great metal than one with a wood stock and beat metal.
Not everyone is a "collector", in fact most aren't. Most are shooters who could care less about wood stock vs. synthetic and all that hyped up jazz and cool stories to artificially inflate values. Metal/barrel are the deciding factor overall.
Don't let the negative Nancy's rain on your parade. There are plenty that like these kinds of things or at the very least don't really care one way or another as long as it is in good condition to shoot. They are not as vocal as the naysayers because they don't like to invite dissenting opinions. Me? I don't give a rats azz about what a hater has to say and if they don't like what I have to say they can GFThemselves.
Nice rifle, good luck with your sale (if you choose to sell it).Comment

Good thing you "don't give a rats azz", because since this CalGuns section is primarily for collectors, telling them that "they can GFThemselves" is surely not going to make you loved...Don't listen to these haters. Yes ..any blade wood stock, of course a Russian would be better but doubt you would get much a return versus chinese, ect.
Hell I just got a classic arms delivery on 27th, Crylic letters, stamped star and matching numbers on wood stock.Beans and BulletsComment

FWIW, I'd trip over myself to buy it at $250, strongly consider at $300, but pass for $350. I understand it isn't for sale... just trying to give you an impartial opinion. I think the value will also go down slightly on 1/1/14 due to the end of C&R.
No qualification to my opinion other than having bought and sold roughly 7-8 Russian SKS.Comment

Not trying to be "loved". I may have been a bit sharp in tongue but I get so sick of people always saying others rifles are worthless/crap just because they have a synthetic stock or refinished the rifle in some way while and at the same time up-selling their own items (read gouging I had a C&R and still have access to prices through websites and flyers) out the other side of their neck.
There is a bigger market for shooters and project guns then there are for collectors/wall hangers but the collector nazi's are more vocal with regard to criticisms. Stick around long enough and you'll see what I mean. This is a C&R sub forum not a collectors nazi 7.62x54r forum. They have a forum for that. This isn't it.Comment

I agree with CAguy somewhat. I love when I see the "experts" downgrade and talk down others guns and are probably the ones sending pm's with insultingly low lowball offers. Yet when they sell their guns they want top dollar.
For in many cases guns with questionable, unproveable provenance and for guns that have major problems like needing a rebarrel and/or have been humped up and messed with.Comment

OK, you have every right to vent your frustration after having negative experience with someone here. I just have distaste for blanket statements that are simply not true. Not trying to be "loved". - not sure why you brought up Mosin caliber, but if you even briefly browse through posts on this sub forum, you will undoubtedly see that it is primarily used by people that appreciate old(er) guns in their original configuration. Not too many posts on how to Bubba your Mauser, Garand, etc...
Second - claiming that Russian SKS is worth the same, whether it is in plastic or in original form is ridiculous. (I am not talking about rusty shot-out one in wood vs. nice and clean in plastic, but both in similar condition).
Oh, and telling me to stick around long enough is a bit misguided. I am fairly new to CalGuns, but have been here a tad longer than you

He found 3 more, sold one, as far as I know he has 2 for sale right now (one with the scarce early style side sling swivel, one with the bottom sling swivel) , although that might have changed in the last couple hoursComment

Hey guys, so this is 2014 and I have an original SKS Russian, all matching numbers. I don't think that this was ever fired. I bought it back in 1995 or so at a gun show and I still have all of the little odds and ends that come with it, sling, stripper clips, little canvas belt pouch, etc. The only thing that I don't have is the cardboard box that it came in. The stock is that dark varnished style, but there's virtually NO wear on any of the other steel components like the bolt, etc... like new condition. WHAT IS THIS THING WORTH?? thanks!Comment

Put some effort into it and post clear pics if you expect any kind of serious response.Hey guys, so this is 2014 and I have an original SKS Russian, all matching numbers. Check and see what they have sold for on sites like Gunbroker. They have a search function that will let you do this.Hey guys, so this is 2014 and I have an original SKS Russian, all matching numbers. I don't think that this was ever fired. SKS without photos
Yes, you're correct I should have put in effort. I have now taken pics and started a new thread under "semiautomatic-gas operated." I have included photos under that new post, basically asking the same question..."what's it worth?" again, my apologies. claremontComment
