    What's my russian sks worth?

I bought it back around 1996 . It was all original matching number but sadly I damaged the stock and discarded it . Also lost the bayo. Currently it is in a Monte Carlo style stock.

In it's current ravaged configuration, it's worth around $300.

Would it be worth sourcing an original stock?

hell yes, you can find a decent wood stock wiyh some looking in the $50 range, bayonets are easier to buy, you should nto be more then $100 into it, and can fairly easily sell at $500+

Yes, that would improve the value some, but still not as much as if it was all original matching. And real Russian stocks are not cheap and hard to find because back in the day when Russian SKS rifles were commonly available and affordable, a lot of people tossed the originals and replaced them with that horrible plastic crap. So there are more Russian SKS's out there looking for a correct stock than stocks looking for a rifle.

I don't know if he still has any left, but "Wolfsburg Bob" over at "The AK Files" had some of the reddish-brown hard plastic composite Chinese "Jungle Stocks" for blade bayonet SKS's. While not technically correct for a Soviet SKS, they are still light years ahead of any of the aftermarket garbage.

When you say decent are you referring to an actual soviet model stock or just any good condition sks stock?

If it was complete and matching I'd say $600. In these last days of 2013 you could sell it for $700 because people are buying up cash & carry rifles prior to the further erosion of our 2A that starts on 01/01.

In its current configuration I would agree with Marcus, $300. Since the guts of the original rifle are intact, your best bet is to find a Russian stock and bayonet and put it back in the original configuration.

Unfortunately, Russian stock sets are fairly expensive and so are blade bayonet assemblies. Chinese stocks and spike bayonets are much cheaper but would not be 'correct'.

If I remember correctly I paid less than 100 for it . I was just a kid at 18 when I bought it. I walked into the gun store to pick up my mossberg 500 and the guys at the store were pushing these sks rifles. Walked out if the store with 2 rifles that day . I think I paid around $80 for it.

I just picked up an unused very nice Chinese stock on Gunbroker for $37.50 (including shipping) so good wood is easy to find....that being said, without a Russian stock the value is just slightly more than a good Chicom version.

That ugly plastic stock reduces the number of buyers who will even consider the thing.

I bought his last one last month. Thanks for the lead on that Marcus.
