Tough call, both are great rifles. Depending on how much you are willing to pay for the Garand, you may be better off buying an 03 now and then ordering a Garand from CMP next year. The total cost will be about $125 higher than the CMP price because it will have to go through a LGS, DROS, and then there's the 10 day wait. However, even with the added cost, it's still less than buying a Garand at the market price.

That 10 day wait will hopefully be gone very soon Even though it will probably only be effective for current gun owners and now new ones.

By "Eddystone" you mean a US Rifle Model 1917 right? Could also be a WRA or Remington and don't call them an "Enfield" unless you are refering to the British version.

Depending on manufacturer and model of 1903, they can be as much or more than service grade M1. I've been hunting for ww1 era with double heat treatment, not many made before armistice and don't come up for sale often so they can be pricey.
Back on topic, I'd go with consensus and by am m1 before the end of year. Don't care how many bolt action rifles the gov will no I buy in future but semi auto I'd rather have quite a few not on their records. I know, I'm paranoid but there is a reason they stopped import of these.
Back on topic; garand now, 1903 next or just buy them both.

I only decided to like American C&R weapons a few months ago. Now they seem to be my main focus. I went a little overboard knowing that registration was around the corner and I don't plan to buy any more long guns until I leave California.

None of them are all matching or especially noteworthy variants, but all of them are awesome to me and it is a huge plus that I can feed all of them with the same HXP ammo.

Congrats on the Garand OP. I was only into foreign guns for the longest time but the Garand has quickly become a cornerstone of my small collection. You should expect that a permanent smile will be plastered on your face when you take it out shooting.

I agree with you Emdog... it's pretty easy to find garands right now... not so much for the 1903s, and it's only getting worse.

Congrats on picking up a nice Garand. Like Bobby said, you will have a smile every time you take it to the range.

If you don't reload, save your brass and sell it, or keep it and you'll have a nice supply when you get into reloading.
