I love my 1903, but garands are awesome.

one thing you have to consider, youre very limited to the type of ammo you can use in the M1 garand. but it is semi automatic so the odds of it ever being banned in the future are greater.

Buying a Schuster Gas Plug or one of the new ones from Garand Gear will negate the ammo limitation issue. (I have both and like the latter because of its ease of use and well-documented effectiveness)

It depends on what you're looking for in full-caliber battle rifle. If you enjoy the manual operation of a bolt-action or value accuracy in an American battle rifle above all else, then the 1903 is for you. I would list the preferences that would lead one to purchase a Garand, but they are countless. If you have neither, and are not set on a bolt-action rifle, then get the Garand.

I say get the Garand first while supply from the CMP is still available. Once CMP sells out my guess is the secondary market for Garand will go up.

This for sure. Just wait for the coming "battle rifle" ban...

I hate to break it to you but the only real answer is both. There should be an Eddystone in there too.

Garands seem to be a little more expensive

However, if you're not with CMP, 30-06, I think, is cheaper ammo

If you have neither, I'd get the Garand first. They are my favorite rifles and are a hoot to shoot. I'm now in search of a 1903a3 to add to my collection myself, but I have three Garands in the stable.

Also as mentioned, since they are semi-automatic they are likely targets for the anti's... 03's should be viable for a long time to come.

Definitely garand first. As for the semi auto thing, it is a concern except it's got the "fixed" magazine working in its favor. There are plenty of bolt C&R's. There's only one garand.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

Garand first for sure then the 1903A3. I have both and to me the Garand is #1.

Tough call, both are great rifles. Depending on how much you are willing to pay for the Garand, you may be better off buying an 03 now and then ordering a Garand from CMP next year. The total cost will be about $125 higher than the CMP price because it will have to go through a LGS, DROS, and then there's the 10 day wait. However, even with the added cost, it's still less than buying a Garand at the market price.
