    $2000 Type 38?

I'm I missing something about this Type 38?

    Why is it worth $2000?
It has the mum intact, no import marks and is in pretty good shape but 2 Gs?

I laughed hysterically when I first saw it but now I'm curious as to why someone would bid it up that high.

I dont believe japanese rifles were imported, most were just brought back. No AA sights or rest.

Of course. Because it's a Larry Eisel gray blanket auction.
That gray blanket has been sucking all common sense from people's minds for years.

Type 38s had no AA sights or monopod.
The Type 99 had AA sights and a monopod, but they were both discontinued toward the end of the war.

I could see maybe $500-$600 but $1975? Was this Tojo's personal weapon during the war or what?!?!

Sounds like this seller has a bad reputation, would someone care to elaborate for me?

              Haha, the gray blanket magic!

Either that guy's actions get shilled up, or I'd love to take a lesson in sales from that guy.

I was watching a Schwarzlose pistol (worth $600-1000 in nice shape) fly all the way up to $3000, then $2600... Kind of makes you wonder.

For a second I thought that was the "buy it now" price and thought the seller was on dope, but then I saw that those were bids....

It refers to the seller in the gunbroker auction. He uses a grey blanket to take pics. He has a reputation for selling not so genuine items.

I've actually bought stuff from Larry on gunbroker over the years, they've all been good genuine pieces. He does have a huge following, but some love him and some hate him. There have been patterns in the bids on his auctions which totally look like shill bids, but how do you even prove it?

Do a search about his auctions among the collector sites and make your own conclusions.

There are things he's listed that are super rare and nice and things he's listed, as mentioned, are not so genuine. It pays to do your own homework on the item you're bidding on and not let a bidding war get the best of your senses.

I wonder the day Larry gets out of the market how much that gray blanket itself would go for at auction...lol It's definitely his rabbits foot.

Maybe it's me or the pictures but something looks odd with the bluing and consistency of the bluing. The butt plate looks like I would expect, patina worn etc.
My grandfather had one of these and a Persian Mauser in his gun cabinet. He had a few other old cool rifles too, but they all disappeared years ago. Never did find out what happened to them.
