I picked this up recently. I usually don't collect smaller guns of this type but the price was right. It's an Astra 2000 "Cub" in .22 short and it came with an extra mag as well. Made in 1962. I went to the range last week and brought it along to try out. After 30 rounds of CCI standard velocity shells through it I have to say that it's very reliable for a small 22 automatic. It functioned 100% and when racking the first round into the chamber, it was as smooth as if you were closing the slide on an empty chamber. I know that Colt later had Astra produce these for them as the Colt Junior. All in all I'm pleased with it and it's certainly not as expensive to fire as it's .25 counterpart, provided that you can find any 22 short these days.

I just bought 2 boxes of 22short for my Single Six. (Laguna Niguel / Orange - Elite Firearms).I picked this up recently. I usually don't collect smaller guns of this type but the price was right. They had quite a few boxes of 50. Probably doesn't help you much but I was surprised to find it....
By the way if you get bored with that gun I like it a lot!!! (The older stuff is underrated)Comment

If you come across an astra camper barrel (3 inch) snap it up and then sell it to me
I love the cub, its a highly underrated gun.Comment

That is a fantastic catch. I've been watching for one of these for quite a while. They are impossible to find here and I look for C&R examples whenever I'm out of Nevada but have yet to see one.
.22 short is pretty easy to find here even in these times and it is cheaper than .25People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

I saw a really nice 1956 Cub a year and a half ago for $120. Thing is the pawn shop in OR had their head up their butt and I left with all my money in my pocket.
Nice find. I hope to get one someday.Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Nice! I'm a big fan of mouse guns.
You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.
Come on...what harm??

Very Neat!Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...
I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.
Tis better to have Trolled & lost, Than to never have Trolled, at all.

What I like about the pistol is that for as small as it is, it has a fare amount of heft to it. All steel. I also think that the Europeans knew that in a pistol this small with such little slide travel, that getting a 22 long rifle to chamber and function might have issues with reliability. Maybe the same reasoning Beretta had when developing the 22 short version of their model 950, which a friend of mine still owns. He says it never gave him any problems. I had a couple of Jennings about 15 years ago in 22 LR and they constantly had feeding malfunctions because the round and magazine are simply too long for the action, although they're not in the same class quality- wise as the Cub. I only got them because I paid 40 bucks for the pair! They were worth about that much.Comment
