So he insists on DROSing it because the last recorded sale was under his name for this rifle. that's fine by me.

He's asking $480 now and I pay DROS, so $505...what do you guys think? I threw him a $450 offer before that. Is it worth it if the rifle is in the condition as shown in the pictures?

The question really is, it is worth it to you?

The photos do not show the left side of the receiver ring, are the eagles intact?

Franky, I think for the same price, you missed out on this one:

He's firm on the $480. I think I'll pass. I'm sure more will come up.

He keeps telling me that supplies of mausers are drying up. Any truth to this?

Vendors are pretty much sold out of the RC K98s. The secondary market is your best bet. Prices have been going up the past year and will probably continue to climb.

$480 sounds fine. However, you don't need to DROS it period

$505 is fine also if he's that adimate about it

I think people give RCs less credit than they're worth. Pay the $505 and you got an all German rifle that will shoot great. I have an RC and a Czech Mauser and they're my faves to shoot

              Thanks guys,

I have a quick question, does the factory that manufactured the rifle bear any significance? Does it affect value or quality?

Not really on a Russian Capture. There are some codes and years that are more rare, that can command a premium on an original matching rifle, but I have never heard of uncommon codes earning a premium on a RC rifle.

If you have a friendly local dealer, take a look at Gunbroker, you may find something that fits your budget.

Thanks, I am just weary on using gunbroker because I won't see the gun before I pay for it...

On the topic of supplies of RC Mausers...did they run out or are we not importing them anymore or...?

More may hit the shores, never know what the importers may find. As supplies grow smaller prices will increase.

Remember even if you purchase from on-line vendor. You are still at the mercy of what you may get.

In your case, you have limited availability since you want to see in person. Most of my C&Rs were purchased site unseen.

Honestly, if it looks like you want it, grab it. Like stevie said, prices will always be going up, so you'll make it back if you sell it in 5yrs or so

Thanks Stevie. I'm actually looking around for a piece to match the wood on your rifle as close as possible. It just really bugs me...

I think a nice RC would be in the neighborhood of $300-$400 and no more. Keep your eyes out and do some research. You may get lucky and find an original with matching #'s. I've found two of them over the last few years. A DOU 43 and a BNZ 42. Just found the BNZ at the Del Mar gun show the weekend before last. It is a nice all original gun with matching #'s and the original sling. A real beauty. I paid $850 for it. They are out there. Good luck to you!

Just remember, unless you really know what you are looking for on a matching numbers gun, the majority of the time you will get ripped off. There is a large market in counterfeit matching number k98s.

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups

Matching number K98s are a minefield; there are a huge number of fakes out there. K98 sniper rifles are even worse.
