Need Help on this Enfield

So I found this at my LGS and was interested in it until i read on the tag that there was no magazine. It is a No.4 Mk.1 and from what I can tell on my limited knowledge of enfields that it was sporterized. They are asking 225 for it I feel like I can talk them down but is it even worth it? I kinda want an "authentic" enfield with a traditional stock. I was not able to look at the bore because the bolt is zip tied to the trigger guard.

Bad price. It has been sporterized. A new front stock, the magazine, and all of the metal parts you need to bring it back to original condition would run you $100-150-ish. A chopped sporter like that normally sells in the $100-175 range (with the magazine included). A shooter grade Lee-Enfield of either flavor normally runs around $300-400. Sometimes less if you find a good deal. I would pass on this one unless you can get it for less than $150.

If you can get it for $150 it will be about another $150 to get stock, stock metal & magazine.

I would rather get the Mauser or Enfield or even that rolling block on the rack rather than the Enfield for that price.

Hell - I'll sell you a sporter No.4 with a Monte Carlo stock and a scope for that price.

Well.....you can walk away or lowball offer it.
My No. 4 was marked at $425 at my LGS. It is all matching numbers but the crown and throat are very worn and the bore mics out a little large, otherwise a beautiful gun. I offered $250 and the store owner refused the offer. I waited an entire year....of course the rifle was still there (most of the milsurps at this store are junk so collectors bypass this place). I then offered him $200 and he took the offer. Any money is better than a rifle that won't leave the rack.
I tried this with a sporterized Krag carbine but somebody bought it before the year was up. Oh well.

yep, unless you have the parts lying around, or can get them cheap, I wouldn't bother. i'll take on a love-child now and then if I can reasonably do it, but my last two were freebies, a cut-stock m38 carcano and a cut-stock t99 arisaka missing firing pin and safety. they cost me about a little less than to buy one in decent shape, but there's a certain degree of pride or accomplishment in putting one back together yourself. I dunno.

The cut down krag next to it appears to have an original length barrel -
Could be a better value ?
I would be a mite suspicious of a shop with the weapon trussed up so you can't examine the bore --
You do have your bore mirror with you at all times, right?

I agree with the consensus here, it's best to walk away and get one that is still in it's original configuration since that's what you are looking for.

if the krag is priced reasonably, grab that. harder to find a stock for but well worth it once you do. SMLE's are not quite dime-a-dozen, but neither still are they rare or special, unless you find a rare, special one

$550 is a lot for a Krag with cut down down stock and original length barrel.

I recently bought one in similar condition for $200. Still looking for a original stock tho! PM me if you guys have any lead...

As for the Enfield, I'll definitely pass on that!
