So I picked up this Garand...

I recently became belatedly interested in M1 Garands and set out to get one. I was more interested in getting a good looking shooter than a G.I. one that was shot out.

The one I ended up is pretty interesting. Sort of a mixmaster with:
    Springfield Receiver
    BMB Bolt (Italian I think..)
    Danish barrel
Other parts unknown yet as I have not taken it apart.
    Brand new stock.

None of the parts seem to have any wear whatsoever so I'd presume that the ME and TE are very low. Here are a few pics, and I would appreciate any feedback from Garand owners. Thanks!

Congrats, very nice looking Garand Bobby. It looks like it's from Feb 1945 based on the serial number. I think you really going to love shooting it. It may become your new favorite.

The serial number stamped in the stock matches the receiver. The stock serial number is a typical Dane addition. Looks like a Danish rebuild. Is the barrel marked VAR? CMP rifle?

Reason parts dont look to have any wear is becuase it has been refinished
More than likely a Danish return told by the Italian bolt, VAR barrel .
The Danes stamped the serial in the stock but not sure about yours. It almost looks commercial, hard to tell from pics
Anyway nice rifle and should make a good shooter

very nice M1. i think i will not be able to hold off wanting one much longer. getting my 1903 A3 has started the ball rolling. i will have my M1 carbine not long from now. the one you got would be perfect for me. i am not interested in all the details like true collectors. give me a good looking rifle that performs properly and i am happy. that baby is begging to go to the range. bring it to the WEGC if you are still coming.their will be 30-6 ammo their.

I agree with Orlando. The stock looks commercial. The Danes put the serial number on the lower bottom next to the sling swivel. Looks like a very nice rifle regardless.

If you like the reddish brown color of the aged military stocks, rub a couple of coats of Raw Linseed Oil into the stock. That will age/oxidize and turn reddish brown. Boiled Linseed Oil will also work, however it doesn't age as fast nor as dark.

I dont know about raw linseed oil oxidizing faster than BLO but I do know that raw linseed oil takes longer to dry
If you use raw linseed ,after letting it soak in for approx 30 minutes make sure you remove "ALL" oil from the surface with a rag or you will have a sticky/tacky mess that never will dry.
Dispose of rags according to instructions on can becuase of spontaneous combustion

I am definitely still coming and I will bring it.

Thanks for all the input everyone. I will update the thread when I get it out and shoot it.

Its an interesting rifle for sure, the gas cylinder looks bead blasted and then left unfinished.

BLO takes long enough to dry, I would stay away from the untreated stuff which is really flax seed oil. I have no idea why they call it linseed oil or boiled linseed oil, from what I understand, boiling it has nothing to do with the treatment to make it dry faster.

Garands are not only nice to look at they are nice to shoot.
California's politicians and unionized government employees are a crime gang that makes the Mexican drug cartels look like a Girl Scout Troop in comparison.

I appreciate the refinishing tips. To be honest I like it the way it is. The gas cylinder is definitely not blued, although it seems to have a textured finish (i.e. bead blasted).
