I wouldn't underestimate the weight of .22lr. I have a 50cal can filled with 3700 rounds of .22 and that thing is pretty heavy. I can only imagine how heavy a 20mm can would be,..... good gosh let me bring a dolly or a forklift.

exactly, I got a couple 5k cases of .22lr, about the size of a shoe box and those things are HEAVY. they weight about 40lbs.

That sounds like the WWII era .50 caliber can. I got a bunch of Yugo surplus 30-06 from 1957 that came in those cans. The Yugoslavians had just stenciled the new content description over the old American markings.

Thanks, that's what it is, WWII era. It threw me off because of the excellent condition it's in.

I have a lot of my loose ammo stored in one of those. Its about 3/4 full and lifting it ain't happening lol

we put the 'LIGHT' decals or stencils on unsealed, opened cans with broken boxes or rounds missing that go back to the magazine or arms room for courier use.. if we mix ammo in a can, we have to put the NALC, DODIC, LOT, etc. on the can as well like the one in my picture above..

I should note that the 20mm cans were used to hold 25mm ammo.

So they must have been opened or something before hand. For a MK38 Naval cannon. I'll look closer at the stencils.

Wow, thanks for the info. I was in the deck department on a Coast Guard patrol boat we schlepped a lot of ammo cans/gun parts/mounts and crap for the GM3. I wish I would have paid a bit more attention.

I went to the main armory to pick up (and push the cart) at Seattle once and there were cans of every NATO caliber piled in huge pyramids all the way to the ceiling.
