I didn't pull off the top handguard yet, I have been told that caliber designations are often under there.

I use .308 and 7.62 interchangeably. We shall see what it is though.

Ah, I guess people use the term in different ways. I've used it to describe modifications done by someone other than an arsenal or manufacturer or commercial gunsmith--including people with some pretty fine skills.

USGI Barrel would be marked on the side.
Face it, nothing more than a common commercial conversion , many of then done years ago
Value? unfortunatly probably only the sum of parts as its such a oddity

It just looks awkward to me. Maybe there is a market for it since it takes detachable mags ( I guess ), but I can't see anyone paying more than a few hundred for it unless you could prove it was a manufacturer build and not a bubba rifle. It just does not look near as nice as any stock condition Garand or M1A. If you put it next to even a beat up CMP field grade garand, the CMP garand would have more appeal to the majority of people I would think.

P.S: This is just my opinion, so please don't shoot me.

CALGUNS DICTIONARY "FLIER": when a shooter wants to turn a 1 inch group to a half inch group because he flinched.

Wojtek that's a cool looking rifle. I don't know anything about it, but if bubba built that he's got talent.

I would put the chances of this being the product of the US Government at zero. Those prototype rifles didn't find their way out of the arsenals and were retained for reference. I think the most likely answer is that you have a Garand that was customized by a talented gunsmith with parts from a FAL.

I agree that this rifle most likely isn't an experimental government product but some M1 rifles have been converted to box magazines by government agencies (besides the Italian BM series). I viewed some marked M1-1 that were converted to M14 magazines and sleeved with a chamber sleeve to 7.62mm. They came from either Pakistan or Columbia, I don't recall where at this time.

I'm pretty sure it isn't an experimental one either. Would be cool if it were and would be nice to see if there are others like this but at the end of the day, it's still a rifle that I am going to keep because I think it is cool.
