I am crossposting this from General Gun Discussion for a more focused audience. Got a weird Garand and would love to see if anyone has an idea on what it is.

You do know there are more guns in the country than there are in the city.

I don't think this is a bubba job, it's way too nice.
That stock is period correct from what I can see. It has all the right stamps for that particular run of Springfield rifles.

If it takes an M14 style magazine, have you checked the receiver to see if it has been welded? Some people would take demilled M14 front halves and weld them to demilled Garand rear halves and build from there.Comment

Hes been told on the other thread he started but wont accept it.
He wants somone to tell him he has a rare varient GarandComment
-
This receiver has not been welded that I know of.

I would personally LOVE if it were actually a rare one. However, I highly doubt it is a hack/bubba job. This rifle, whatever it is, had a lot of thought and work put into it and it sure as hell wasn't from bubba.
Also, I don't have to accept crap until I have exhausted all research avenues. Regardless of outcome though, I am going to be keeping it.

Congratulations Wojtek, It is a rare item, even if it was just made by some professional gunsmith / engineer in his gunsmith shop ,but I'm not sure that was the case
I wouldn't sell it either.someone definitely sat down ,thought it out and the machined metal work looks well done
it looks unique to me.
my two questions to you are approximately how much did you pay.(if you want to say. no pressure though. )and did it come with a story or any information when you got it?
I hope its worth a million, you deserve it you've given a lot of people great deals here on Calguns, but I still wouldn't sell it if I were you. it's nice to have a one-of-a-kind itemLast edited by sealocan; 08-01-2013, 9:52 PM.Comment

I paid far under market value, that's for sure. I got it as part of a package. Unfortunately, I'd rather not discuss figures openly.Congratulations Wojtek, It is a rare item, even if it was just made by some professional gunsmith / engineer even if it was just in his gunsmith shop ,but I'm not sure that was the case

I hope its worth a million but I still wouldn't sell it without you.
No information on the rifle other than what a friend told me when he called, which was "it's a .308 Garand, probably used for the Navy or something. It came from a collection from a guy that died recently and his widow wants this stuff sold off at this price $$$$."

From the photos it just looks very professional and I know the Navy sometimes does some experiments with different weapons. Also I Edited my post to let it be known that you've helped out many Calguners with some amazing deals.
That's great that you got it at a reasonable price again I hope it's a one of a kind winner for you.( I think it already is.)Comment

There are some Bubbas out there that do good work. At this point, you don't even know if it cycles.
Stamps may be correct for the era, but that doesn't mean that they are authentic. They look a little off. What are the barrel markings under the oprod.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groupsComment

No markings that I can see.
You are right, I don't know if it cycles.
In my eyes, the term "bubba" tends to mean someone that butchers up a rifle.
