    1944 Ithaca 1911 A1

That bubba gunsmith worked over I bought this twenty plus years ago as a shooter it will feed anything regardless of how its put in the magazine.
Shoots just fine just a shame it isn't original anymore.

No but if they made full wadcutters for a 45 I think they would feed.

Left side if you look hard at the slide you can see his attempt at engraving.

Because of the mods to it this is no longer a C&R is it?

Still C&R. Just not highly collectable.
              Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

The pics are not very good, but it looks to me like a gun worked on by a gunsmith, named Bill Davis, from Sacramento. He put S&W revolver sights on Colt 1911's, and did other work to make them outstanding shooters. Is the top of the slide milled flat? If this is a Bill Davis gun it is anything but a bubba job, and you are lucky to have it.

No top of slide not milled flat, I've owned this for at least 25 years has Bill been doing this kind of work that long? The bubba part of this rework is really in the engraving, the mechanics are fine.
This type of rework was popular back then.

Okay one more question what's it worth in the condition vs if it had been left alone.

Yes, the Bill Davis guns that I am familiar with are from the 70's and 80's.
It looks like the ejection port has had some work done on it to make ejection more reliable.

I did a little research on him, seems he was really good on revolvers, would have been my kind of guy.

Its also had some work do to the ramp to improve feeding its not a pretty gun but it does shoot well.

Frankly the pictures are way too small, taken from too far away to have much use in establishing value imho. Give us closer, larger pictures and maybe we can provide a decent guess.

As has been mentioned, S&W revolver sight installation on 1911's was a somewhat popular modification back in the 60's and 70's and was performed by numerous smiths, famous and not.
"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
"What we get away with isn't usually the same as what's good for us"
"An extended slide stop is the second most useless part you can put on a 1911"

"While Ruger DA revolvers may be built like a tank, they have the aesthetics of one also,
although I suppose there are a few tanks which I owe an apology to for that remark"
