Garand will not cycle first 4 rounds, ideas?

Got a garand from Dupage and it will not cycle the first 4 rounds as soon as I got it.

I took her apart and cleaned and lubed with mobile 1 grease

    Replaced spring

    Replaced gas plig

Checked gas port with go/no go gauges and it's go.

But it still will not cycle those first rounds. Once it gets to the 5th round it works flawlessly. I tried actual garand ammo from CMP plus other ammo and it does the same thing.

    Have you tried different clips?

Just for kicks check inside the Op Rod and make sure there no broken pieces of sping inside
What brand spring did you use for replacement?

Got all replacement parts from garand gear.

        I'll inspect.

You have a pin gauge for the gas port? What size is the go and no go gauge? If it cycles from the 5th round on then your gar port is fine as there is nothing mechanical on the port.

Just by chance the clips you are using don't happen to be the infamous French made SF are they? If they are then use them for a wind chime as that's what they are good for and not for your Garand. Get some USGI clips and try again. If you still having problem you might have a timing issues. I would investigate all the parts on the rifle that affect timing.

Where are you located maybe someone local can help you out swapping parts.

I'm new to garands so I don't know what those parts or clips are.

Anyway to tell which clips I have?

strange.. If you chamber a round manually, when you fire does it feel normal? I'm thinking it could be timing, like said. Try completely different clips as well. good luck!

The bottom of the clip should have a marking.

You are correct, those are not the French crap ones. However they don't look like they are very high quality.. Are all the clips you have just like that?

Rub that middle circle on the back of the clip with steel wool and a marking should be there. You might have to look at it under a magnifying glass. If unmarked then it is a Chinese copy that are worse than SF. Where did you get the clips from? If it came from an 80s vintage HXP then they are SF for sure.

Where are you located as people might help you out. If you are in the Sacramento area take your rifle at Sac Valley range #6 on Tuesday and we will get it running.

SO tell me exactly what did you gauge? The actual gas port under the barrel?

Sounds like time to do a face to face with another known working M1 and do some comparisons/swap some parts.

What part of the world are you located in?

Did you make sure that the rounds are completely seated in the clip?

It was the ammo you could order from CMP. It came in a spam can in bandoleers.

I ordered the go/no go gauges from garand gear and yes I tested the port under the barrel.
