Not every old rifle is worthy of "original" condition...

    Nice job OP!
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Tis better to have Trolled & lost, Than to never have Trolled, at all.

First, thanks for all the Input
I'm happy I didn't get totally flamed for desecrating the Mosin.

The gun was not the best of shape when I got it. I wish I had pics. It looked pretty banged up but the bore was excellent. The Gunsmith I took it to did an amazing job cleaning it up. By the way He is Mark Cooper in Riverside he is a Gunsmith and Engraver if anyone is interested I can PM his Phone number to you.

Too answer some of the comments :

        Why do this?
Since most of the shooting I do is paper and the range I shoot at is between 100 and 200 yrds, this gun fits the bill perfectly. It would also make a good Hog rifle when the time arises.

Why did I choose 16" barrel...? umm Why not? it was meant to be a fun little project for me. Did I think I was building a long range tac driver...No

My brother has built basically the same configuration with a 18.5" barrel plus the brake and we haven't seen very much difference in accuracy at the same distance above. His does have a slight increase in FPS. I'm sure if we went out to a farther distance it would be noticeable but like I wrote above it's not what I intended the rifle to be. I can shoot this gun all day long no problem. I can't say that I can do that with my normal 91/30 without feeling like I had the crap beat out of me.

I do shoot reloads but I have shot milsurp as well through it. The only difference of course is the milsurp isn't as accurate and tends to creep but still holds a pretty decent grouping with the occasional flyers.

Did you put the bubbaed bolt in this for the pic, or did you have the bolt chromed? On the 91/30 The bolt is hand polished not chromed. The rest of the gun was so clean and the bolt looked like it had been through a sand storm. I started trying to clean it up and ended up just polishing the crap out of it.. LOL

        Thanks again everyone

"Sporter" is what the drooling toothless inbred albino with the hacksaw thinks his newly created "dear riffel" is.
"Bubba" is what he and his ugly and ruined rifle really are.
First you are chopping up historic vintage rifles and sticking them in cheap and nasty looking plastic "dildo" stocks that look like some kind of futuristic sex toy that gay space aliens stick up each other's butts.
Next thing you know, you think "Deliverance" is a love story.

You'd have to handload with some pretty fast rifle powder to get consistent results.

What kind of results are we talking about? MOA? Minute of Nazi?

I had no problem shooting 300 yards with an M1A SOCOM which also has a 16" barrel. Difference between that and an M1 Garand with a much higher FPS round was almost nil.

Great shooting...I have to believe the muzzle blast is impressive
