She will go for more than $2000. I bet the packaging would go for half that. This find will be hard to beat this year. Garand collectors are gonna go nuts. start putting it on forums so collectors know its coming and can save their pennies

Very cool find and interesting backstory on these. Wasn't aware of these (and I own a Garand - jeez). Just an observation on dating, I see a few "59's" on the packaging and even a "1959" on the bag and this was in a Rock Island auction description (on the internet, so take it with a grain of salt):

"USMC PROPERTY, MODEL MC-58/H&R MODEL #65 MODIFIED/HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON, INC.". The top rear of the barrel is marked = USMC PROPERTY =/HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON INC./WORCESTER, MASS., U.S.A." and ".22 CAL. LONG RIFLE ONLY" on the left rear of the barrel. The serial number is stamped on the left side of the receiver in front of the rear sight. A small, "Eagle/Three Star" National Defense Inspection final inspection mark is stamped on the inside of the pistol grip. The Marine Corps purchased a small quantity of MC-58 rifles in the late 1950s for training rifles. The MC-58 is a scarce .22 caliber military training rifle.

If anyone's got some more (accurate?) history, it'd be nice to read about it. Good luck and keep us posted.

That's 200,000 pennies or more. Seller better have a heavy load vehicle to haul away his (or her) booty !

Yep, we weren't joking when we said you found a jewel.
Keep us updated on how/where you're going to help sell it for the widow.

Like said earlier, using RIA will probably bring the most money, or you can stick it on gunbroker (after you advertise it coming up for sale on all of the firearm forums you can) starting at a penny and watch the bidding madness ensue.

Nice rifle. Thanks for posting the pictures.

Here is a link to a thread I started several years ago that has some information on the rifles:

                        http://forums.gunboards.com/showthre...SMC-22-Trainer)

It should do well when sold.

                        Thanks,

                            Nice!
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Tis better to have Trolled & lost, Than to never have Trolled, at all.
