UPDATE - somehow I mis-typed the numbers for both the fake sniper and my "auction". I have corrected that now. Enjoy!

OP, your "fake" GB posting makes you sound like your meds need to be adjusted.

Why not just contact GB and have them take down the counterfeit auction?

When people start talking about the history of the type of rifle instead of the specific rifle that is being sold, its a red flag. This guys entire description is intentionally worded to look like this is a real sniper, but actually doesn't say that.

One of these is a real Tula, the other is a Century repro:

The obvious difference is the scope cover going through the hole in the base, have yet to see a real one like that.

A guy who bought one of the molot import from me was able to squish one of the caps through the hole. It's the only real one like that I've ever seen though.

This could be a great discussion. Any other tips on spotting a real vs a replica PU scope?

Hard to tell from the pics but:
                  This dial looks different?
the color of the metal looks different?

other than trying to look for wear and age (and the scope covers) any other things to look for?

Real Moison snipers are hard to find/identify, Replica's are not that hard to identify, fake Moison snipers are either restamped or advertised as real and only a good collector can distinguish the provenance.

There are no FAKE replica's, that is a term invented by collectors to discount/discredit any replica as not being a real sniper and not worthy of owning/shooting.

Is some of these stuffy hording collectors would part with their hoard of hysterically priced 'Original" rifles maybe more of us could enjoy them.

Buyers do your homework and buy originals, replica's, and fakes at your own risk.

While I must admit I admire your tenacity for helping all of us in the gun world to recognize a cheater, I must admit I did laugh at at the bowing statement.

Sadly though, I am faced with the follow-on comment to see that this forum has been diluted and digressed to such comment which followed.

To the OP, please, though I laugh at how you do what you do, I still appreciate the information you provide.

Anyone who believes that having, or not having leather lens covers stuffed though the mount holes is a indicator of being a "real" sniper or a "fake" is a fool.

It is possible to get an "ex-sniper" and restore it to it's former configuration. If it's well-done, I wouldn't mind buying one like that. But if I were to sell one as such; I'd give full disclosure as to what it is. It's onlty right..
