What is it about a SKS with a pistol grip and collapsible stock. I tried another reputable LGS and they don't want to touch it. They sell AKs and ARs but a SKS with a fixed magazine is a no no. I don't get it.

Is it 922r compliant? The sks with a hand guard has 17 parts that counts towards 922r.The firing pin dosen't count towards 922r.That might be the reason no one wants to touch it.

        Cause its SCARY!

Anyone have a "regular" stock that it can be transferred in? And then just give the buyer the accessories?

The Turners guy says, it's detachable because you can release the magazine to allow the rounds to come out.

          Retarded.

The release is for the magazine cover. Not the magazine itself.
          The magazine remains fixed

This fact saved the day for ARs here:

The magazine is fixed and requires the use of a tool to release it, A bullet can be used as a tool.

Pop off the stock and transfer the stripped action.

Then make sure your 922r parts count is sufficient before reassembly.

forgive me if this is a stupid ? but cant it just be cash and carried ( if he still has orginal stock)? I dont know much about sks rifles but im guessing they were made 50 + years ago
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. Jefferson's "Commonplace Book," 1774_1776, quoting from On Crimes and Punishment, by criminologist Cesare Beccaria, 1764

The Chinese SKS Paratrooper are not C&R. They were made during the 1980-90s for civilian sales.

Why do I keep hearing "922r" here? WTF does 922r have to do with SKS rifles?

Has anyone worried about "922r" noticed that the recent imports of Yugo and early Chinese SKS rifles needed NO COMPLIANCE PARTS. Yeah, that's right, no Tapco hammer/trigger/sear/disconnector. No U.S. made stock. No U.S. made magazine parts. No U.S. made gas piston. No single stack magazine.

They are legal to import just as they are.

Now of course there are some restrictions imposed on them here in California, where our laws are written by people like child molesting pedophile petty thief shoplifting communists.

ATF Ruling 85-10 held that C&R surplus military firearm must remain in their original military configuration in order to be legally imported.

                    Therefore...
If it is no longer in it's original military configuration, it is not longer considered a surplus military firearm and exempt from 18 USC 922 (r).

Adding a pistol grip and a extending stock to it, requires Fed 922r parts compliance. Because, it is considered assemblying a non-importable semi-auto centerfire rifle.

Some are and some aren't. There are quite a few military surplus SKSs that are not 50+ years old.

Because they are c&r weapons. The paratrooper is not c&r.He changed it out of sporting purposes by adding the pistol grip.Same way a stock Saiga can be imported if you change it you must comply with 922r.
