    bore cleaning

Need to clean out NASTY dark bores on a couple of barrels any tips? They do have strong rifling but dark.

I haven't tried this yet but it seems really neat:

This method seems like it'd be safer to the bore than scrubbing with various metal brushes.

Or you could just do the solvent soak, elbow grease trick.

You may never get those dark bores clean. Just give them a standard cleaning and go try to shoot it and see what accuracy is like. I have a Brazilian mauser with a very dark bore and strong rifling that shoots great so I quit trying to clean it out.

Just give them a good cleaning maybe some foaming bore cleaner and shoot them. The way i see it you can wear these old rifles out by cleaning them or shooting them.

I have never tried it yet but i am thinking i want to try it. Here is an upgrade power supply. http://www.surplusrifleforum.com/vie...&sd=a&start=30 and this link has different cleaners you can make to use with the electric bore cleaner. http://www.frfrogspad.com/homemade.htm

I actually bought the Outers Foul Out III that the homemade electrolytic devices are patterned after (not enough free time to build my own). So far I've tried it on two Mausers and a Mosin. My K98 had a LOT of copper build up on it, but the others have only had minor pickup on the rod. However, I do clean out a lot of other gunk with patches after an electrolytic cleaning session. I can't say that the bores are any less dark though.

for cleaning i use shooters choice. but if you want to polish that bore and improve accuracy, then you need to order david tubbs final finish kit, load it up, and shoot it out of your rifle like the instructions say. my groups went from 2.5" at 100 yards to .75"-1" on my mosin nagant 91/30, plus the bore does not foul up as much as it did before, and its a lot easier to clean. this only works on non chrome bores.

I did the DIY electronic bore cleaner and it was very effective. Nicely removed plenty of black crud from rifles I thought were clean.

on my mosin i use barns cr-10 after every shoot to clean out copper and whatever else. then kleen bore formula 3 to clean up after the barns and to lube it up. since it's a dark bore, i'll come back once a week and run a few patches through it with more kleen bore. usually see more stuf. it gets less and less the more i shoot it.

I have a few Mil-surps with obvious fouling so I've been using JB Bore Clean, and Outers Foul Out (electrolytic copper removal). I get tons of gunk out each time, but I don't seem to be making a dent in the fouling (after a few cleaning sessions on each gun). I'll keep plugging away at it.

I've found that worn and pitted bores shoot worse if you clean them to bare metal. Cleaning in moderation is good.

Clean it up the best you can with a bronze brush then shoot it. I had a crappy M95 clean right up after shooting.

An Electronic bore cleaner will work also. Two batteries, section of steel welding rod, ammonia, rubber stoppers, and wire w/alligator clips.
