$249 may be the ticket with the plus that you get to inspect before buying. C&R internet guns are always a crapshoot.

I'd waste a lot of x39 ammo too if there was anywhere within 100 miles where I could actually shoot it..

Are they selling them today at $249? Technically the ad starts tomorrow, but I'll head to Turners tonight if I can check them out/possibly get one.

The Turner near my house (Chino Hills) will honor sale price on Thursday night. Based on my experience when they had the Tokarev, if they are not too busy, they will bring out a few for you to choose from. Good luck!

            sks

That's a reasonable price considering what you get for the money. It's a pretty versatile rifle that can be configured many ways. Hard to beat.

I went through the three that Reseda had so far yesterday, real beaters. No bluing on two of the three, one had a cracked stock and all three had rust and pitting in the barrel and one was covered in rust on the receiver cover, bolt, gas tube.

Might be worth hitting a couple of stores and hunting through what they have, you might find a decent one. Wood is fixable, bluing is re-doable but heavy corrosion, not so much without a lot of work and hassle and even then, I wouldn't want one that had a lot of rust and pitting.

I went to turners at Norwalk they were pretty beat up I look at couple of them but no rust, on the first one the the blueing is at 30%, all matching a few ding on the stock, the bore look pretty used, the second one I look seem to have a better blueing on a close look it was just cover with dirt, non matching the stock has dings, no present cracks but with a stock repair, the rest look about the same it may be worth for somebody without a C&R.

On a separate note I was offer one with a jungle stock for $300 what do you guys think, is that a better price, but it will have to be dros also.

my local turners is chino hills. i was their at 4:30 today. they had one for display and said the rest were coming in later. so all i could do is inspect the display SKS. well folks i bought one but they are not something to show off. the wood was covered in dents [no cracks]. the metal is not rusty but the bluing is almost gone. i have a like new yugo SKS and wanted a chines SKS. i will doll it up as best as i can and hope it is a good shooter.if you are only going to own 1 SKS and you want a nice looking one these will not be what you want. i still would rather take my chances with one of these than a old gun show beater that maybe is being sold because of problems. it only comes with a bayo ,no other goodies. they will not last long at 249.

someone at my local turners that knew a bit about sks's grabbed one that i had the employee bring out from the back ( a bit shady : ( ) but it was numbers matching with the exception of a 1951 stamped russian cover on top. ive been told the chinese received surplus russian parts initially when obtaining the tooling as well, so some of these guns may be very early examples of the type 56 sino soviets. i grabbed one that had cosmoline in the barrel and was hard to tell but the rifling looked good, so fingers crossed that when i punch that bore its gonna be clean thanks to some old fashion preservation. i may very well go back and put a deposite on another once they bring out the last of the batch, as there are sure to be one or two more gems in there. for the most part ( and i saw most of them) the stocks were reduced to mushy smashed bashed destroyed paste stuck to the receiver, and the metal was missing almost all bluing so most of these are about bubba worthy and thats it. good luck and post pics if you get one!

I had to pass, I only have room for one SKS in my safe and it needs to be at least a little less homely. Hopefully will have my Yugo next week. Wanted a Chinese but the only pretty ones I have seen on Gunbroker and Guns America are the same price as a nice Russian. I would rather have a Russian for that much money.

It will cost the same to buy from turners or get it from Jgsales with hand select/matching#s.

I picked one at turners today, have C&R license but prefer to see them before buying. Out of 15 or 20, there was only one decent one with all numbers matching and decent stock, even the number on stock matches but not sure about bolt as they don't allow to field strip.
Some of the bluing missing, but it looks better than all the others. There are some with decent bluing but with chewed up stocks, bluing is really dark black on these rifles, may be they were refurbished?
