A little bit on the expensive side, but why not consider a 1903a3? It the "American mauser". Plus you already have the ammo for it in 30-06.

Too many incredible C&Rs out there and my safe is getting full. Would love to have an '03-A3, but since I have my Garand, I want to explore the Euro Soviet side of things more. Picking up a Mauser, then an M44, then a K31. Perhaps an '03-A3 after that?

Since everybody was so helpful on the Mauser information, can anyone chime in on ammo? There seems to be a lot of different 8mm ammo on the market.

Is this Samco Iranian magnetic I take it? http://www.samcoglobal.com/Ammo-8mm.html Great price. I have a Mosin and have a place or two where I can shoot magnetic ammo and I would imagine dealing with corrosive on a Mauser is the same corrosive ball on Mosin? Hot water to flush the barrel and then clean and lube as normal? Samco says 1950s manufacturer on this ammo? Anyone shoot it? The whole split necks, duds and hangfires is a little intimidating, is that the 1930s Persian ammo moreso than this Iranian 1950s?

I know that the Prvi Partizan softpoint seems to be the hot tip, but at .72 per round, I won't be shooting my Mauser much. Is there any other 8mm Mauser ammo I should be looking at? I know, I know, get into reloading. I will eventually but for now, I just want to take the new Mauser shooting without spending a fortune for each session.

Anything non-magentic that is less than the Prvi Partizan if I want to shoot at Angeles or A Place to Shoot? Will Oak Tree still let us shoot magnetic, I have been hearing conflicting stories and I have only shot handguns there so far.

Any and all Mauser ammo advice is appreciated.

Don't know about the Iranian, but this stuff is decent:

They tend to have hard primers, and may take either a stiffer firing pin spring, or just hit them twice.

many just want a nice condition rifle that works properly and looks nice. outside of collectors [ small percent] a good price for a good shooter is all they want. example a almost new YUGO M-48 or a war capture K98 with a beat up stock, major miss matched parts and maybe a little rust thrown in for good measure.
very few would want the capture. remember most want 1 nice example of a Mauser and then move on to something else.
i respect and admire collectors and what they have but not everybody wants what they want.
i have 1 SKS and1 mauser. i would not mind having more but their are a lot of other rifles i do not have and want first.

I hear you. So far my lil C&R collection:

1937 Turkish M1903 Mauser (bought last week from a nice Calgunner)
1954 CMP HRA Service Special M1 Garand
                    1953 Hungarian M44 Mosin
                    1942 Izhevsk 91/30 Mosin

Adding an SKS and I think I will be done for a spell, my safe will be overflowing. Although people keep telling me I should get a K31. Yeesh, it never ends.
