To be fair, the yugo shown above is the kid's attempt to show that $100 Mosins aren't a good deal.

No one saw it happen, no one believes it did. If it did happen, that was the last time it will. Nothing that should affect reality.

        It is possible...

Back in 2007 I bought a 24/47 in similar shape with bayo, caked in cosmo from the Yuba City, CA Big 5 store for $99.

        Granted...it was 5 years ago.

Go with the K-31. Yes ammo is pricey but they shoot very very well. The bolt is a little tricky to take down but they shoot like a dream. I own more bolt action mil surp rifles than I care to number... but I can say that a k-31 is my favorite.

FWIW.. my #2 is a swede M96 mauser in 6.5 swede. I shoot this with iron sights, 300 yards. Again ammo is pricey but you can actually hit what you are shooting at.

If you ask nicely I am sure there is someone in socal who will let you shoot either at a range sometime.

Aww Paul did you get kicked out of the AARP again? Is that why your back and throwing snarks at me? I know its tough isn't old man?

Any way back to Topic. Listen OP it's not impossible to get a good shooting mauser for 100-200 bucks. Do some wheeling and dealing, throw in a trade and talk to the person face to face and you be amazed.

Check the WTS forums and see if any of the sellers are willing to knock down the price or negotiate with you. What do you have to lose? Give it a try and good luck

@ C&R Trader. That is a good idea, yea if you want Capy I can let you shoot the m48 Mauser and see how you like it. Fun to shoot, also know some one who has a k31 I am sure he'll let ya squeeze off a few rounds Let me know.

                    Yep...

The 1941 contract was not fully filled, as I understand it. Because of the need for rifles, the Wehrmacht got the undelivered '41 Ports. Apparently this one was captured and got the Russian "treatment"

this is what my big 5 M 48 looks like also. i did not get any goodies with it though. . i also have the early model with all machined parts. it is a good shooter and will have to be my only Mauser for a while. only paid 240 bucks for it. happy i have one. maybe a WW 2 German K 98 later on.

I would opt for the k-31 or the other swiss rifles first like a 96/11 or k11. Check out simpson's for that, they've got a special going. Seems like those are getting harder to find also in the marketplace. Mausers are still easy enough to find. But if you want mausers for sure, those VZ-24s from AIM are great and won't be around much longer. The 24/47s seem to be in good supply from multiple vendors...

get a yugo M48, built like a tank and the butter slick mauser action.

Yeah m48 or some of us like to call it "The pig" of mausers is just built excellent. IMO I think it's one of the best built 98k mausers out there are far as machinery is concerned.

Those AIM VZ 24 are nice too as they are Romanian Refurbs. Either way can't go wrong.

K31/11 are great too and if you can find them grab em.
