I guess Im going to have to try this. Im at a loss just like everyone else here.Unless it was the valve, now we know its not, the only other thing Ive heard of causing this problem is perhaps a lot of gunk/grease they pack on these things for storage, but you said it was cleaned...hmm.
My next guess would be try replacing gas tube, the piston return spring, and the piston extension. Perhaps try an overhaul of the current gas parts? I cant think of much else.Originally posted by Scuba Steve33Indeed. I'm on the Mosin dick after picking up my first one recently.

I think I know what your talking about but am not sure. is it a spring that's about 1 in or 1 1/2in long in a box like thing where you lift the switch to release the gas tube??Originally posted by Scuba Steve33Indeed. I'm on the Mosin dick after picking up my first one recently.

see #21-23 of the surplus rifle url above. The gas piston extension should fly out when you move the latch to the up position. Remove any cosmoline from the cylinder. Replace the gas piston extension in the cylinder without the spring and be sure it moves freely along its travel in the cylinder.

No, that is not the problem.
Look at figure 20 at that same link.
Back in post #8 I wrote....
I had one that was the piston and tube causing an issue. If it is not the valve, the cylinder that the piston is in under the handguard could be worn out.
Under your upper handguard (the wood thingy) is a gas tube. Inside the gas tube is a piston on a rod. It is aprox. 6 to 7 inches long. It touches the short piece in your photo. Remove the piston and rod. Try a Murrays oversize one that someone posted about, or else the cylinder (called the gas tube) may be bad. Hopefully, it is not. They are a little hard to find sometimes, but not impossible. You can always buy a tapco brand with a black handguard instead of the wood, but it is not easy to change the wood. I did it once, PIA big time.Comment

I'm just looking forward as to when JLMXD resolves the problem. I know things can be frustrating but it is a good learning experiance for those that are serious of being in the SKS world. Everybody has to start somewhere. "Rock on JLMXD!""TRUST BUT, VERIFY"
