    Saw some nice bayonets today....

Saw about 5 really nice collectible bayonets today. Original scabbards, original frogs, original bayonets......only one problem...

Someone took a wire wheel to all of them and machined an edge into the bayonets.

One of them was a Mauser bayonet with a great looking brids head.....I took a close look at it and you could see the tell tale brush marks and that gray color those wheels make.

An M4 bayonet that someone had ground the blade to a spear point. Not sure if the soldier might have done it, but it looked like some kid went to town.

Presuming they are not drastically deformed - If you have the time and interest, they can usually be fixed, not to original, but certainly cosmetically, to a degree that they look good in your collection.

I found three today here in LA - they were so rusted they could not be removed from their scabbards $50 each - I bought one, a German Butcher blade.
Worked at it with gun oil and 0000 wool for an hour or so (the streaks are in the oil the 0000 doesn't mark the metal.)
It will never be a show piece, but fun to have and cheap.
I say buy them and fix them, lol.

Sharpening blades with a wire wheel? Impressive mis-application of a tool.

I would be tempted to buy them cheap if any are hard to find or match a rifle you have which is lacking. A modified bayonet is better than none...

Too bad I did the same on my Type 99 bayonet :X

It was rust bad on the cutting edge that I had to sharpen it (by japanese waterstones) to move the rust :X

Lost a bit of collectors value, but hey, I got to admit its pretty sharp now
