I don't drink or Smoke. I spend my money on gunpowder and gasoline.

A shame that the OP removed his pictures. I'm a pic-whore.

Can I hijack this thread a sec? Diopter & SVT-40, I recently bought some European repro scope mount for my Egyptian Dovetail. Can you say how that mount's base is retained such that it doesn't slip within the dovetail from recoil? Is there any way its locked in? Mine is hand loose when inserted but even if you could "snug" or tap in forward into place I don't understand how it locks. Some on another forum talked abotu silver soldering it on. I'm not down for that. I'm thinking about drilling some screw holes into the scope mount's base so I can push-back with screws to secure it. I'd like to avoid drilling into the receiver but it is a Century built (not rebuilt) Eagle crest so really the least collectible. I just wanna make a nice shooter with glass for my failing eyes.

BTW I believe Numrich, Sarco and Apex still have a fair amount of FN49 parts. What would one buy as spare parts in case these parts a drying up any time soon?

Silver solder was the factory way to keep the base from moving in it's recess.....The base, scope mount and scope are heavy so unless the base is very secure in it's groove it will move.

Okay. That's why I'm thinking of coming up with something like what is seen here.

Don' know if we'd have to penetrate the receiver (yet) or if the push back alone will be enough. Goose52 (an authority over on the FAL Files) says he's heard of people doing this and it can still lose zero but will settle down after a number of rounds.

It would probably work for the purpose you intend.I would think you would need to have corresponding recesses drilled in the receiver for the screws to register in. Otherwise the base, mount and scope will probably slip, as they are pretty heavy and under recoil may try and shift.

              Good luck!!

                  It's an extra base.

My original Luxembourg sniper's base was permanently attached at the factory.

Wow, Nearly a museum piece. Too bad about that one ding on the left forward stock. Have you ever thought of ironing it out?

I guess I will have to fasten mine to the receiver as I do not want to solder or weld.
