Did you get anything else in the deal say like some ammo, gun case or a sling? Seems a little on the high side since there is no wood. I would have tried to talk the original seller down to 2 something. But hey if you like it and it shoots good that is all that matters and not what anybody else says.

Not technically for sale but I have a 1950 Tula rearsenaled SKS I have been thinking of selling. Clean Less than 200 rounds since purchased in 1993. Appears to be all numbers matching. I don't really have the ability to take photos, but could meet at ADE's or the HB Turners in OC. PM for contact. At minimum I'd love to have an SKS expert look it over and give me an honest opinion of rarity and value.

Dirtbiker, some of the early %0's SKSs have interesting variations going for them. Check your gas tube for this:

Sampachi, What is the year of your square gas port rifle. I'm guessing early 1950.

Not mine, but that one is a 1950. They show up mainly before and a little after if I recall correctly.

So ya I went and shot her today and was tearin up the gong at 200yrds open sight so its deff a shooter..

and it came with a scope and a few big mags i probally never use.

but he wanted 350 for it so i did get him down to 320 and i actually like the synt stock so all in all seemed like a good deal to me..

oh ya so is it legal to leave the bayonet on it, cuz i like it and in case i run outa ammo i could always stab a pig..

Once you change the stock do you have to worry about 922r? Or is that only for assembling from scratch?

SKS legal or what to make it so

New here so please bear with. My friend who hasn't been shooting in years has been bugged by me to get back into shooting. In his collection he has a Russian SKS he bought in 1994 at a gun show that was fully outfitted when he bought it with P-grip stock, scope, bipod, a larger magazine than the one I have (not sure of its capacity but it is a fixed mag), bayonet and flash suppressor. I told him I did not think this thing was legal and he definitely shouldn't take it to Calif when he goes.
I have been trying to get definitive answers as to if this set up is legal, and if it isn't legal, what steps he needs to take to make it so.
I suggested he get a non pistol grip stock and lose the suppressor but I don't really know what to suggest as there seems to be some mix and match ideas out there on what is the way to go. He really likes the P-grip stock but I think he realizes that it may have to go.
Anyone with real expertise in SKS and the current laws please share your knowledge.

If it has a 10 round fixed mag then with all the other features it is legal. If the magazine is detachable then he would need to take off his features (pistol grip and flash supressor).

By far the easiest way to make it legal is to have the fixed 10 round mag. I thought all russians had a fixed mag but maybe I'm wrong but if he indeed has a high capacity fixed mag or detachable mag have him buy a fixed 10 round before he comes in and everything will be ok.
