Garand ?

Its not just bullet weight but not all modern powders are suitable for the Garand
I would not fire any commercial ammo without a adjustable gas screw no matter what the bullet weight except for commercial ammo made for the Garand
Is it worth the risk?? Not when a $35 adjustable gas screw will assure you no damage
. Commercial ammo can stress the Op Rod and receiver heel as it will cycle faster/harder than M2ball
It is possible to bend Op Rods and even worse crack the receiver heel. I have seen Op Rods dismount when using commercial ammo and cylce fine with M2 ball
Metal fatigue is accumalative and doesnt happen overnight. Who knows how much stress and fatigue these old war horses have already had put on them. You might get by with shooting thousands of rds with no issue or it could happen on the very first rd.
Do ya feel lucky???
JMO yours may varyComment

+1 ^^^
I'm overly cautious and wouldn't use modern cartidges in my Garand. If you don't reload or don't have any M2 surplus, Hornady makes "M1 Garand" ammo. No risk involved.
Other than that get the gas plug.

Did you read my previous post??????
Go back and read it, your answer is there
IT IS THE BURN RATE OF MODERN POWDER THAT IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE GARAND GAS SYSTEM. GET A ADJUSTABLE GAS SCREW IF YOU WANT TO SHOOT COMMERCIAL AMMOComment

Yes and the author of that web site sells a gas screw for shooting commercial ammo and recommends it.The Scientific Method...

FUD-free for those that can handle the Truth.
The reason is what powders companies use when data is collected may not be what they use the next batchComment

When it is all spelled out for you by several people and then you ask the same question over what do you expect??Opoooooooooooooooooookkkkkkkkkkkkkk calm down dude I was asking a question im sorry I upset the garand god for asking a question. Commercial ammo is not loaded to hot, the Garand receiver is plentl strong
It is the burn rate of commercial powder may not be compatible with the gas system
Not sure what the problem is. If you cant afford a $35 gas screw so you can shoot ammo of your choice you should find another Curio Relics Firearm
Its your rifle ,you have been given the facts now do as you chooseComment

As Orlando already mentioned, it has nothing to do with weight of the projectile but port pressure. Some (not all) commercial rounds use slower burning powder designed f=mainly for bolt guns. As the gas reach the gas port, the pressure is too high due to the slower burning power. You have to use faster burning powder so when gas reach the port, it has lower pressure as most of the propellant has already burned.Originally posted by mtykimYou can shoot modern 30-06 up to 150gr.
Again nothing to do with hot. You can load it to Sierra's max load for 30-06 but as long as you are using the proper powder like 4895, 4064 etc. you are good to go.Comment

Ok I submit to your will Orlando I am in the wrong sorry for asking if there was anything else I could do. I got te gas screw the first time. Just asking a question and you get all dicked off and get wood for the caps lock. It's not necessary.sent from the depths of my subconsciousComment
