M 48 Mauser

starting to see some nice cond Mauser M 48 rifles at big 5 for 299. i am not a collector, i just want a nice looking rifle that is in good working order. this will be my only mauser. i do not have a C&R lic. are these good rifles ? thanks

Yes, they are good rifles, and that is not a bad price.

If I remember correctly, the last time any distributors had any they were about that. I don't see any of the regular sources stocking any right now.

thanks, now i want one. sure wish big 5 did lay away like turners and ammo brothers. i know it is only 300 bucks but man i have been spending a lot of money lately.

saw a Peruvian Mauser at ammo brothers for 300 bucks. the stock was well worn. not near as nice looking as the Mauser at big 5. also it was chambered in 30-6. i do not remember what year it was made.

Look for a matching bolt. Not guaranteed, but it may help with smoothness. I bought one at Big 5 with mismatched bolt. Sticky as HELL!! M24/47's I have are much smoother. Big disappointment for me. I had to by 2 more RC K98s to make myself feel better.

thank you for the info. my first MN i had to really smack the bolt to cycle it. i thought something was wrong with it. does the M-48 use the same 8mm ammo as other Mousers.

Yes same as K98's, VZ 24's, etc

It uses the same ammo but there are some compatibility issues between M48s and regular K98 pattern rifles. The Yugo mausers have an intermediate action, so things like bolts, stocks, safties, etc., will not be interchangeable...

Has no bearing on the quality of the weapon, or the craftsmanship. They're very nice rifles...

i will have one for sure. their goes my stash for getting a M1. the 300 bucks fits my needs nicely.

What part of the state are you in? From Merced to Madera I've seen nothing but crap for M48s. I should add as well: mine actually looked worse after decosmo-ing and cleaning. Ugliest Mauser I own hands down.

Your lucky it was not up north or I would have beat you to it

All matching too, including stock. Bore is pretty good also. $325, not a bad price for a beautiful rifle.

Nice pics above but, that's a M48A. There is a slight difference. The "M48" is, how can I say it, built better.
