    retro ar

I'm in need of information on where to buy A1 parts for a retro build. I'm aware of ar.15.com and there retro section, also aware of the retro black rifle website. Done many google searchs, looked in the shotgun news, ect. I'm hoping one of you guys will know more than me. I know this isn't c&r but its in the same ballpark.

You might try Del-Ton. Other than the handguards, this is were I got all the parts to build my A1
If you know how many guns you have... you don't have enough guns.

People need to remember that the same guys who wrote the 1st Amendment, also wrote the 2nd Amendment... and for the same exact reasons.

I got all of the stuff for my retro builds from Moore Militaria...

Vietnam War era uniforms, field gear, equipment and insignia.

but it looks like he is down to just handguards and pistol grips now.

Are you looking for any specific items? Or are you looking for all of it.

Moore Miltia........... hand gaurds, pistol grip, sling, bipod, and A1 flashhider.
Gunbroker.............. probably your best bet on an upper assembly.
Bolt and carrier....... If your not being exact, any will do, if your looking for exact, there is a guy on Gunboker/GunsAmerica that will probably have one.
Lower.................... If you want early, nodak spud has an A1 lower, if not picky, any will do if you want to refinish to match your upper.
LPK...................... Just get a decent one from some where.
Butt stock.............. not sure, just keep an eye open. Not sure if you want a M16 version or a later A1 version with the trap door. M16 is sexier. There is a set of hand gaurds, grip, stock and sling on gunbroker right now. Search "retro"

I'm not sure on the condition of them, and not sure on correctness. But also not sure how much you want to take the build either.

        Good Luck!

Thanks for the help. I have an upper that I bought from Ohio Ordanance. I want to build the kind of rifle used in '69, the year of my birth. I beleve that to be a 603/M16a1. My upper seems to match the 603 style. One thing I don't understand is M16 vs. A1. While searching for a correct buttstock I found a page that sold M16 buttstocks and further down they had A1 stocks. What is the difference? I also noticed that in bolt carriers. I plan to get the full fence A1 lower from Nodak Spud. Over all I just want a authentic rifle, that looks good. If its not 100% correct I'll be okay.

This is a rifle with a M16A1 butt stock. Yes I know its pink but pay attention to the rounded butt.

Here is a AR15A2 butt stock I bought from a member here a few weeks ago.

            Notice the differences ?

Thanks. I get the difference between A1 and A2, its M16 and A1 I am having trouble with. I was under the impression that M16 ment A1 and vise versa. A2 is a whole different ball of wax. BTW was there a kitty on that rifle? because if there was.......

That would be a good year to build around. That is the year this one is based on. All the accessories are also. Lots of scrounging.

                    M16 stock has no trapdoor.
                    A1 stock has trapdoor.Same length as M16
A2 stock has trapdoor and longer than A1

Sorry looks like I misunderstood you.

The difference between the standard M16 and M16A1 would most likely be features.

Maybe the forward assist. Or some other upgrade that made the rifle more reliable.

I have the book called the black rifle and will take a look.

Either that or wait till the CGN historian chimes in.

                      That would be Technical Ted.

Funny bolt and carrier are new and not original.

Here is my interm a1 build.... I plan on getting a nodakspud lower when my tax rebate comes in. I think I will make this into a BB feature lower and get a m4 style upper for the current lower.

BTW, where can I find some 10/20 mags that arnt the crappy steel pro-mags?

Thats what I'm hoping to end up with! Very nice. When I first started thinking about a retro build I wanted to go 601 with those really nice green handguards, buttstock and p. grip. But for a first try I wised up and am going an easyer route.

                              Wow!!!
