Well at least with $3k you could buy a real M1 with some sort of provenance, instead of this shiny thing. Sad part is, if you shoot this thing it loses even more value. WTF is the point?

The problem some people have with these Garands are that they aren't real Garands. They're "Commemorative" editions made by the current Springfield Armory, and not the government run Springfield Armory. They look "cool" hanging on the wall, but they'll never be the real thing. It was pretty cool for her to donate it though.

Agreed she did a great thing to honor her husband, and I think these were produced late 1980's or early 1990's? I thought they were really great looking and redid the wood on my one and only Garand (at the time) to match these. That was until I started collecting Garands, got educated as to what a "real" military finish looked like. That Garand wood was stripped and "correct" finish applied. Some collectors at the time were not too thrilled with these gussied up gold plated Garands.
You are correct these aren't "real GI Garands" even the Italian Garands are "real GI Garands" these Commenoratives are not GI therefore there is no "historical" value to them.
